The Role
Overall, the internship was very enjoyable since the day-to-day work was always varied and there was always something new and different to do. The company places great value on the interns and with this comes great responsibility and therefore satisfaction, which left me looking forward to coming into the office every day. The work-life balance at the company is great and there were plenty of social events and other things to do beside the work, which lead to an overall great experience.
The teams that I was allocated to treated me as if I was a new graduate in a full-time job, and the work I got reflected that. While daunting at first, after a couple of weeks I began to feel like I was a genuine part of the system, and it was great to see the work I was doing sent out to clients on a regular basis.
The first two weeks of the internship are filled with plenty of training to give confidence in both the work you do and the systems you use to do it. The training is excellent and gives a perfect way to break into the day-to-day work life of the remainder of the placement. Furthermore, throughout the internship, everyone who gave me work explained not just what needed doing, but also why it needed doing. It was great to have this context on a project, and everyone is always receptive to your questions or concerns and is happy to help out.
The daily work was always varied and plentiful and being on a couple of different teams ensured there was always something for me to do. That said, there is plenty of opportunity for you to say if you're too busy and systems in place to take on work if you've not got enough to do. There is a strong focus, especially on the internship, for you to maintain healthy working hours and you're never expected to work early or late. Since everyone knows this you never end up with too much to do on any given day.
While you get a lot of exposure to all different parts of the business, you also get plenty of responsibilities to ensure the smooth-running of the teams you're on. While it will vary from person to person, the tasks I had varied from ones which were fairly menial, which were appreciated hugely by others since it made their lives a lot easier; to some projects where the timeline could easily have fallen behind if I didn't get my piece done on time. As said before, the company will treat you like a full employee and so the responsibilities you get reflect that, as does the satisfaction you get from completing everything you do.
The Company
The office is a relaxed environment and there's a productive vibe around at all times. That said, it's never too hectic and you rarely see people running around trying to stick to deadlines: this fits in with the general ethos of the company which ensures the best job possible is done all the time and projects seldom run to deadlines.
The internship is clearly a very valuable part of how the company operates and the training and events laid on for the interns reflects that. The internship started with a dedicated induction day for the interns, followed by a fairly full programme of training which is similar to what the new graduates receive. You get regular meetings with both your manager and the recruitment team to ensure you're on track and for you to highlight any concerns. I didn't once feel as though anything had been rushed together on the internship: everything was thought through and organized thoroughly.

The Culture
The social scene is great, particularly over the summer, and there are well-organized social events throughout the internship: including one or two that the interns themselves organize! Since there were six other interns with me at the time, we all stuck together and got on well both in and out of the office.
The cost of living around Reigate can be high but I commuted in for the internship which kept the cost down significantly. The company also paid an allowance towards these costs on top of the basic salary. Costs for socializing tend to be more normal, and certainly not London prices! We were able to go out for several meals on the internship without breaking the bank.
One of the highlights of the internship was the interns being able to organize a social event for the whole office. This kept us quite occupied as there's always more to do than meets the eye! Furthermore there were plenty of casual sporting events or other socials to go to, including Rounders and Cricket for all abilities!
