The Role
I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hays, it's been a challenging role but one that has stretched my skillset and allowed me to take ownership and be my own success for my specialist desk. The culture and collaboration at Hays has been one of the most memorable experiences, fast paced, dynamic and motivating.
Very valued, with incentives and competitions alongside a variety of specialisms all coming together, the experience at Hays is one won't forget. It's a rollercoaster and you will have good and bad days but the culture keeps everyone together.
Hays is a place that welcomes hard work and innovation, so a new idea is heard and discussed which creates great opportunities for individuals. I'd say everyone I work alongside is happy to help and give advice and there is always different outlooks which then gives you options and greater understanding depending on the way you learn. I had the opportunity to be led by many managers, however I feel as though it would have been even more beneficial if there were more time spent on immediate management skills.
There is never a dull moment in Hays and there is always jobs to be done which is a highlight in the sense that you will never get bored. there are so many ways to streamline processes and create new marketing and new ways to attract candidate/client attention. through Trial and error you become more knowing of what the market place looks like in the field you work in and how it works.
I have been given my own desk and specialism i.e. Hays accountancy and finance Part/non Qualified specialising within the media sector temporary, although a long title and you'd think a small responsibility my market is extremely large within London. As well as this to grow my market and build my desk I then have the responsibility to meet my own candidates and clients in order to win business, another key factor of why I enjoy working at Hays
The sales type environment that I work in has helped me massively, in regards to having thorough knowledge of my field, how to analyse/streamline processes and also the confidence to speak to a wide range of individuals, from clients to colleagues to candidates. This has allowed me to observe how individuals work within a corporate organisation and the diversity in behaviours and work ethics. This has given me a lot to think about in regards to completing my dissertation and what types of theories I can relate to organisations such as Hays.
The Company
There is never one day the same in my office, from competition days involving different offices and directors and managers leading incentive days. The atmosphere although hardworking and extremely success orientated is one that acknowledges and commends success from the best billers to the most dedicated and determined employees. It is one of the main strengths of the Hays culture, that although the role consistently changes the people around you do not and as we have all been through highs and low's it's reassuring that my team back my decisions and assist me whenever and wherever I need help.
I always had someone on the other end of the phone and my internship was very well organised, i knew where i had to be and when every step of the way, this in addition to advice and frequent contact from my internship advisor.
We had 3 days of out of office training which taught us about the three main concepts of Hays Candidate Attraction, The Client base, and our bespoke system OneTouch. As well as this I'd say the main highlight of my training was being taught so many different things from business directors, Managers and senior managers, in small groups in an open area we had one on one time with experienced professionals. This gave myself and my group the chance to really dig deep into the role, their past experiences and "what if" type questions. From getting information from all of these individuals experiences it definitely allowed me to have a sparse view of handling challenging situations I have been apart of.

I have already been given a chance to be apart of the culture via an extension on my contract and potentially part time whilst at university, there is definite progression and great opportunity and it is known to myself and others. There is also a graduate scheme where by there is a short interview process to return to Hays and a fee for your success
The Culture
Myself and the interns on my team are extremely close and although we all have separate managers we all come together and see each other every day. It's definitely a company that prides itself on future talent. Myself and the interns in my team meet with all the interns across office in an end of period wrap up to congratulate successes and give out prizes for intern of the month. It is massively reassuring and ensures that good work is paid off.
Hays do incentivise it's colleagues with socialising on Fridays and birthdays, these experiences have been highly enjoyable. the cost of living in London can vary but I'd recommend a flat share or living somewhere that is commutable as travel can be drastically decreased depending on the transport you get to work.
Due to the work hard play hard culture at Hays, there is a consensus that individuals who do well and are acknowledged for success are incentivised and congratulated with added competition days and prizes to win. Friday each week there is a report sent round for weekly targets and if you hit these weekly targets then you win 'Bunk off early' which allows you to leave earlier. It's a lovely incentive and a good motivator also.
There is opportunities in Hays to enjoy external activities, one included the 'Tough Mudder' challenge for our company. As well as this there are pub quizzes and parties and events that we hold in regards to out specialist sectors and end of year awards.
