    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great placement, very enjoyable both from a work and social point of view. You will be given great exposure to all areas of the business with the flexibility to move around departments. You will have a high level of support but also with a high level of independent responsibility. I would highly recommend this placement opportunity.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued! Straight away I felt like part of the team. You will be included in multiple projects from the start both with your immediate team and larger parts of the business. Regular team building events are also held, ranging from dodge ball, darts, and bowling and fitness events. The social and nightlife culture is great with regular team鈥檚 trips to local pubs and bars.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whilst this placement requires a high level of independent responsibility and decision making, there is always support from the wider team. Also there is a very extensive training programs that involves 1 on 1 session with directors and other senior members within Hays. Each teams has systems experts to cover technical issues and no question goes unanswered for long.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As you will find out recruitment is an extremely busy industry there is always clients to BD and candidates to talk to. You will hit the ground running from 8:30 until 6pm, whilst this is a long time to be working the fact that you are constantly on your toes means the time fly鈥檚 by. Whether it鈥檚 being on meetings or external candidates visits you will constantly be moving and up from the desk.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You will be given responsibility from day 1, hitting the phones straight away and talking to senior clients within your first week. Like most work placements you will shadow other consultants until you are ready to meet candidates and tackle clients on your own. It鈥檚 fair to say within 6 months I was meeting CEO鈥檚 and directors on my own! Which is nerve wracking but a great experience at the same time.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This role will give you great skills in time management, sales, communication and organisation. This has helped me massively with juggling different assignments and modules during my degree. The communication skills will massively help in group projects and presentations which inevitably will help you in your further career. From meeting senior directors you will also develop a great understanding of how large businesses work which is great when taking a business related degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office environment is very professional and work focused but out of core hours it鈥檚 becomes more relaxed with heavy joking and chatting between employees. The environment is 鈥渨ork hard, play hard鈥 with multiple sales days and frenzy鈥檚 weeks and rewards for hitting certain targets or objectives. It is easy to find motivation in the office even as an intern as your benefit all from the same rewards as full time consultants.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well set up by Hays, after the initial introduction from my university Hays handled the whole of the recruitment and induction process. They had constant contact with me before and after the assessment days, constantly sending me any information I needed. You will benefit from a personal talent scout who handles everything for you and can be reached at nearly any time.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • From day 1 you undergo extensive training side by side with full time new consultants. You have small training groups with some of the company鈥檚 most successful directors and consultants. Online tests and whole training days are a regular recurrence, these sessions help both with the job but also to give you vital professional skills you will call upon later in your career.

  • Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, Hays offer great commission and a clear promotional structure. I have been offered the opportunity to pick up my desk in the same team on my return. As I have completed my internship with Hays I will also benefit from a much quicker promotion structure.
