About You
I really enjoyed the Insight Day at Willis Tower Watson, as it was a unique chance to get to know the people who work there and the different business segments available. Although the agenda was quite packed with talks, the time spent there literally flew and the speakers were engaging and passionate. Overall, it was an interesting day and I also found out new areas of interest within the company.
I was given the chance to speak face-to-face with many graduates and experienced employees who asked me about my current studies and my future aspirations. I felt they were interested in what I was saying and some of them identified with me. What's more, we took part in some "business games" , so we had to take an active role instead of just sitting and listening.
In general, people were ready to answer our queries and give us the information we needed. The members of the staff responsible for the event stayed with us throughout the day and ensured that everything was alright. I think we received good and continuous guidance.
Thanks to the business games, the networking sessions and the employability session, I received useful information about what the company expects from its people. I feel this is quite relevant as I can now focus on developing these core skills both within and outside University. Apart from these, I was given exposure to the different segments at Willis Tower Watson and this has helped me clarify my ideas. Although I had done lots of research before attending the event, first-hand experience is always the best way to see whether a specific role in the company could really suit you.
The Company
The agenda was fairly packed but very well organised, which means there was no wasting of time throughout the day. There was a good balance between talks, networking sessions and breaks. Honestly, I really appreciated the fact that were given time to talk to the people who work there. I would have liked to ask more questions but overall I am very satisfied with the way the event was structured.
There is no doubt the atmosphere was professional , especially during the talks, but it was never daunting and I always felt free to ask questions. I think I had a lot in common with the other 西瓜视频s invited to the Insight Day, which contributed to creating a pleasant environment. Also, the networking sessions were less formal. I would say that the working culture at Willis Tower Watson is one of the best features of the company.
The programme I attended was just one-day long, but the former 西瓜视频s who are now part of the Graduate programme explained the wealth and variety of support available to them. What I really like is the opportunity to study for some qualifications while working. For example, people in the Retirement division are encouraged and pushed to get the Actuarial qualifications which can help them further their careers and broaden their competencies. The company provides the learning material and the support needed to succeed.
In general, this is probably the best feature of the Insight Day. I know it is just one day, but I can honestly say that it has really helped me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role at Willis Tower Watson. First of all, I had direct exposure to the work environment, which seems very collaborative and friendly. Secondly, I could talk to the people who currently work there and learn more about their duties and projects.
Before attending the event, I had done lots of research but I was still unsure about the area I would like to work in. Now, after the Insight Day, I have narrowed down my options significantly and I have a more thorough understanding of the different type of work and the different skillsets that each business unit requires. Of course, this doesn't mean that I have already decided my future career path, but at least I have a clearer idea.
Everything Else
I fortunately live in London, so I had no such issue. However, just before attending the event I was informed that the company would reimburse most of the travel expenses. There were lots of people from outside London and as far as I know the company has been prompt in dealing with their requests.
There were a few short breaks and one long break during which we could freely talk to graduates and more experienced professionals who currently work for the company. They gave me useful insight into the different internships available and they told me about their typical day in the office. They explained what they like about Willis Tower Watson and how their background helped them achieve their goals.
The employees touched on the activities they can get involved in outside of work, but there was not really enough time to go through them in details so I appreciated the fact that they focused on more important things. Anyway, as far as I understand there are lots of activities available, from charity projects to sports.
I would definitely recommend this programme to a friend. Anyone who shares the company鈥檚 values and has a genuine interest in one of the many divisions at Willis Tower Watson should go for this great opportunity. In this way, they could really understand whether they want to continue their commitment and apply for a summer internship the following summer. There are not many opportunities out there for first-year 西瓜视频s and this is something that shouldn鈥檛 be missed out.
