The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement here, I feel I have learned a lot. Everyone here is really nice, both interns and colleagues.
I felt like I did contribute to projects on my team and was valuable. They were appreciative and would have had to do these tasks themselves if I hadn't done them myself.
My line manager's style of management is quite hands off. We met up once a week for a chat. This suits me but I didn't have that much guidance. I was assigned a senior mentor who wasn't particularly interested so I would say they should be vetted more thoroughly before they are assigned to check that they are interested and have the time to meet up.
I was very busy every day apart from week 7 when a lot of my team were away. However, I filled this time meeting up with other colleagues and doing intern projects.
I was given a healthy amount of responsibility. I would be given tasks to go off and do by myself but I would email them to whoever had assigned them for them to be checked over before they were signed off. I found people available and willing to answer any questions I had if I needed help along the way.
They won't help me in my degree whatsoever but I have developed soft skills that I do not practice at university, so that is a great bonus. For example, creating presentation and excel spreadsheets.
The Company
Lighthearted generally, although quieter when a lot of work was on. It was appropriate to laugh and have informal conversations, however my team didn't have a lot of banter and was professional at all times.
I think it was really well organised. Before we even got here, we were told about social dates, and on our first day we already had lots of events in our calendars, it had been really well thought out.
The company as a whole invested a lot in us - we had training days with external coaches, socials and talks. Within Willis Re, I was given a lot of training. They organised a lot for me and they set up lots of meetings.
I think it looks like really nice place to work.
The Culture
Definitely, all of the interns got along really well. However, my team was not sociable.
High!!
Really good bar scene, particularly on a Thursday.
Not really.
