The Role
At first I didn't know what to expect from a placement, but I have really enjoyed the year at Hays.
Everyone at Hays makes you feel very welcome. There are a lot of other interns as well so there are people who are in the same shoes as you. They organise sports events etc where you can get to know other people in the business which helps.
You receive a lot of support on a day to day basis, They have training plans that you go through in your first few weeks which allows you to learn the basics, then you get training from people within the business. Then throughout the year there are a number of people you can go to if you have a question, whether its your manager etc
You are busy in recrutiemtn as there's always something you can do, candidate/client calls, job ads etc. At the start it is hard to manage your day but this is something that you learn to do.
I was given a lot of responsibility over my placement, speaking to clients about new roles etc.
Recruitment teaches you invaluable skills for life, future work and my degree. The training you get at Hays is extremely good.
The Company
Recruitment is sales, so the atmostphere has a buzz about it as everyone is on the phones but can also spare time for a quick joke now and then as long as work is getting done.
The placement is really well organised, you get a training pack when you start and all your training is booked in for you so you don't have to worry about that when you arrive. You are set monthly targets which allow you to organise yourself as well.
As I have mentioned the training they give you is excellent, you get training programs on the computers, training from other colleagues as well as training offsite. There's always someone who you can ask if you need advice with anything.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
They are appealing as potentially you may have the opportunity to be fast tracked when you come back as I already have a years experience. You go on to a full commission structure as well as a good starting salary for London.
The Culture
You have a good relationship with interns who work near you or on your team, you also get the chance to meet other interns in the montly awards they do. Hays is a very social place and you are more than likely to bump into people whilst having a drink on Friday!
It is expensive to live and socialise however if you are sensible then you can make your salary stretch.
In the city you are well connected to all parts of London. Sometimes you might just end up going out around work as it is convenient but then there are other times where you may go further afield! The City pubs and bars are good, but sometimes might be a bit 拢拢
Hays do hold activities outside of work, whether they are sports based or parties for Christmas and end of year.
