Overview
Each day we had a number of talks organised about the firm. We would also be set tasks by our supervisors within the seat which gave us an opportunity to experience real work undertaken by lawyers day-to-day. We also had to complete a Group Presentation at the end of the two weeks, so factored in preparation time within the timetable.
Skills
Improved by time management skills and communication skills. Teamwork skills within the Group Project. Attention-to-detail.
Business Insight
It was so valuable to meet so many people within the firm and to really get a feel for what it would be like to work within the firm. They really made an effort to explain how all the teams work and what all the teams do.
Culture
Really friendly. Only con was that some (but no means all) of the trainees didn't seem like they had much time to look after the Vacation Schemers. But on the whole, everyone was very friendly. Many of the Associates and Senior Associates were really willing to help.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy it, but the whole process was intense because you do feel like you are being watched all day every day. So you cannot completely relax. But beside that, it is so valuable to have the experience and see what the firm is like from the inside.
Yes
Be yourself! If you like the idea of big commercial legal work that has the culture of a mid-size firm (in a good way!).
