Overview
My main responsibility was managing an external vendor to lead systematic literature reviews. I was an author, overseeing the process and ensuring that our work was reproducible. I was also delegated deep dives into literature for my team becoming an expert in regional HIV epidemics. I facilitated meetings within the team as well as with cross-functional teams.
Skills
I did not know anything about Health Economics before commencing my placement. My organisation funded a qualification from LSE. I have also gained competencies in evidence generation and research as well as soft skills such as leadership, communication, management and business acumen.
Responsibilities
I had a lot of autonomy on projects I was leading and I was ultimately responsible for instructing an external vendor. I was also delegated a lot of responsibility in the wider team for events and conferences. However I felt that on the projects I was leading on there were not high stakes.
Support & Guidance
My team were were very experienced and very senior so had a huge amount of expertise. This was beneficial because they could answer any question I had and sign post me to excellent networking opportunities. However this also meant that my team could be difficult to get hold of and did not have a lot of time to manage me.
Culture
ViiV is a very supportive and friendly organisation to work for. I only have positive things to say about their culture.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed working in ViiV and the opportunities that gave me. I had a fantastic experience in my team too - the only downside was that I was not qualified to do more things! Overall, I had a wonderful experience and it has given me clear direction in my career path.
Yes
The company culture is really important to ViiV. I would strongly advise applicants to thoroughly research their culture and values as well as their products.
