Overview
My main role was troubleshooting machines and understanding why they broke. It involved completing investigations to prevent future downtime. I delivered change controls to ensure that mechanical changes could be implemented in a compliant way.
Skills
I've improved on my communication skills - I used to only speak to people in my age group, now I've expanded and am more comfortable with talking to people who are older than me and have more experience. I've developed my understanding of safety risks, hazards and precautions. I can think of a situation and how to assess it properly to ensure there is optimum safety for the user.
Responsibilities
I was responsible for ensuring projects were completed in a compliant manner. For example, one project involved adding new mechanical equipment to a cleaning process, and for that I had to assess the quality of the part. The quality was not good hence the change action could not be closed. It was important for me to hand the line back to production in a timely manner.
Support & Guidance
I received a wealth of support from my own team and from other supplementary teams who work alongside Engineering. I gained the opportunity to take part in World Day of Cultural Diversity which was hosted by the Embrace ERG group which allowed me to network and learn from people outside my team and across different sites. This stretched me as an individual and gave me wider insight into the world.
Culture
The company culture is very focused on compliancy and especially because I am a new staff member, I was given work at a relaxed and gentle pace. The atmosphere is very supportive, kind and encouraging.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement experience and am sad to leave because it was enjoyable, I developed myself fully and grew as a person.
