Overview
Vacation schemers get a chance to sit in one practice area each week. They are allocated tasks by their supervisor and trainee buddy, which can range from client-facing calls, drafting, and research. Alongside this, Vacation Schemers will work in groups to create a presentation to learn more about the firm.
Skills
I enhanced my drafting skills through working on legal documents and submitting forms to regulatory authorities. I worked on writing newsletters, which enhanced my research and practical legal writing. I also worked on my teamwork and developing relationships with my colleagues in an office environment.
Business Insight
As the Vacation Scheme leads directly into a training contract, there is a heavy emphasis on career progression. Vacation Schemers are encouraged to learn more about the opportunities available at the firm, and to speak to a wide range of lawyers and colleagues to find out about life at Taylor Wessing.
Culture
Everyone at the firm is very supportive and excited to have the Vacation Schemers in. People make the time to explain tasks, have meetings with you, and invite you to social events. Teams are very egalitarian and there is very little hierarchical culture. Partners are incredibly friendly and approachable.
Your Impressions
The insight was very enjoyable. Vacation Schemers are given a lot to do and while it is demanding, this makes the experience very rewarding. Equally, the friendly culture of the firm makes for great socialisation and communication.
