Overview
I support the team in developing calibrations for customers, and identifying issues with software builds. This involves running tests on test benches in order to identify issues compared to the customer requirements. I then use the code files to trace back the issues to the root source before communicating this to the software team and other controls engineers. I have also worked on a placement project, which has been managed solely by me and another placement 西瓜视频. This is designed around solving an existing gap/problem the business has identified.
Skills
I have developed my knowledge of the CANbus protocol and systematic diagnostic testing. I am much more experienced in fault finding and reading and using C and Matlab code. Not only this but I have developed a variety of soft skills by working at the company. I am now much more comfortable presenting information in a clear and concise manner to higher ups, as well as identifying which issues I cannot solve myself and being able to find the right person to help me.
Responsibilities
I have been given a lot of responsibility as a placement 西瓜视频. I have been largely responsible for testing and validation of several key features of a project. The work felt like I have been genuinely impacting the company, and helping my colleagues work more efficiently. As I have spent time with the company and shown my skills the responsibility has increased, showing that I am a valued member of the team.
Support & Guidance
As part of the placement I have been guided through the first steps of each new responsibility, and given any support I needed when asked. However I have also been given the space to learn for myself and try things out. this has meant I have built a strong understanding of the systems I use I have received biweekly meetings with my line manager to discuss any issues I might have and the progress of my work.
Culture
The companies culture and atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. I have felt comfortable and supported from my first day. People are happy to help out and provide guidance whenever you ask. You also take part in community support activities, and my team try and do at least one of these together a year. It really brings the team together and makes it feel more welcoming. but also brings a welcome break from everyday work to bring everyone together, often outdoors.
Your Impressions
The placement has been a lot of fun, and I have learnt a lot from it. Due to feeling like a fully contributing member of the team it has been very rewarding. Despite this the managers are conscious that you are a placement 西瓜视频, and so are careful to make sure that you are happy and that the work is not pushing you too far if you are not comfortable with it, always happy to help you work out how to alleviate any issues.
Yes
Make sure you understand the basic parts of a diesel engine, and if applying for controls then look into ECM's, Simulink, and CANbus messages. You don't necessarily need any of this as the company will give you the training you need, but it will help give you an edge, both when you apply and when you start working.
