    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am involved in reading, assessing and presenting regulatory risks to the business taking an environmental lens to ensure the business is acting in line with its' Planet 2050 sustainability goals as best as possible. I work within the Packaging department so this work is focused on packaging materials and their impact, and how we can reduce the negative impact they have on the planet

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have improved my skills on Excel, PowerBI and other applications massively as I had only used Excel a little beforehand and PowerBI never. I am more confident in data analysis and analytics, and I will carry this into my final year of study at university where data will be an integral part of some modules. I have improved my people skills and professionalism working within my team and the wider company, and positive feedback on this has improved my confidence at work and in wider life.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot! I never felt like a 西瓜视频 and just felt part of the team. I was given real work with real responsibility and major implications in the business, so always knew how important what I was doing was and helpful to the other staff in terms of reducing their workloads. This made me a better employee as I was more driven to want to do my best as I knew I was respected and included.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support, feedback and guidance were offered throughout the placement which meant I was constantly able to develop. I wasn't just told how to do things though, we would work together through a problem, bouncing ideas off one another to reach a solution.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 5/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very positive and inclusive. We were always supporting one another and championing each others success, it wasn't seen as a competition for someone else to do well. DEI was important and not a tokenistic effort, and as a woman within the business I felt genuinely seen and heard and that the company was committed to this. There were various women in business events run by the CEO, VP and other members of the company who were female which I always found inspiring and were very well attended.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Hugely. I adjusted well to the 9-5 and the flexibility of working from home some days, going on site visits on others, and being in the office at different points kept the work varied. I liked the people I worked with and we built good friendships as well as having professional relationships too, even when they were based all over the world.

  • 7. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
  • To do it! The interview process was a really good insight into the role as it wasn't a department I was overly familiar with, and gave me a chance to see how the business operates / their mindset to approaching things, which was all very positive. Research the department you want to join as there are various placement opportunities at Cummins, and don't be afraid to try something new!
