The Role
I very much enjoyed the placement and got to know soome very friendly and approachable people. The office was always a lively, fast-paced environment, that does not live and die by hierarchy; just because you are an intern, doesn't mean you cannot have a conversation with your boss' boss.
Extremely valued. You were never considered a spare part or somebody just there to do photocopying. You were a necessary cog in the team; and the work you did was highly appreciate - if you created a spreadsheet for someone, they would ensure that whoever they showed it to would know that you made it. In this way, you were never overlooked
There was always a wide variety of support and guidance networks that vary in size and scope. HR were always available for a chat, as was the intern welfare officer. In addition, every single member of your team would never ignore your emails or questions - they would always not only help, but be happy to help too.
Busy! It would often be the case that halfway through completing one task, you would receive another request or another task that needed completing urgently. At first, this was overwhelming, but I quickly became organised and disciplined in the way I approached tasks. Before long, your list of tasks doesn't seem too big, as long as you stay on top of things.
A lot of responsibility! From day 1, we were given real tasks that had real consequences. There was no time for a dummy run of each individual task that you may or may not come across. You truly learn on the job. Fortunately, everyone is understanding and they know that everyone makes mistakes and that the internship is a learning process for us.
General skills such as time management were drilled into me from the first week and these will definitely be useful. As an intern, we also got the opportunity to give presentations on our work. General skills such as these, as well as more specific business-related skills will also be useful in whatever role I choose to go in. There is no doubt that this internship will be beneficial to my degree and future career.
The Company
Very friendly. Nobody ever ignored you or spurned questions. You could always have lunch with anyone in the office. Each morning, we would go get a coffee from the canteen with a team member just as an informal catch up and friendly chat. There was never an awkward moment in the office or any animosity - everyone gets on really well.
There was never any issues with regards to structure and organisation. I had booked a holiday before the placement but I was, in fact, allowed to structure my internship around the holiday with no issues whatsoever.
Hugely! I had weekly 'Lunch and Learn' meetings presented by different members of senior management, attempting to expose me to different areas of the business. I was also encouraged to complete some of the online E-learning training which was all free and ranged from basic Ethics information to language courses and excel master classes. Even within my smaller team, I was constantly given inductions to various pieces of software or various roles within the business. On all levels, my learning was heavily invested in.

Very appealing! I plan to apply for the Graduate Scheme which may lead to a permanent position. The internship will certainly be the perfect platform from whcih to get on the graduate scheme and into the company permanently.
The Culture
There was never a dull moment with L'Oreal! There were frequent company wide social events such as the monthly Bar 255. The intern committee also organised many social events that were appealing to a range of different people - from club nights to trampolining to food clubs.
Quite expensive! London prices were an important factor to bear in mind but the company did its best to help with regards to the social scene.
There is always something to do in London! It doesn't have to always be expensive but whatever you like, there is something for you!
Many opportunities, sports events with local teams, local cinemas, you name it! Each day, a new event was taking place -keep an eye out on the internet to find out what, where and when!
