About You
I enjoyed the insight due to the variety and usefulness of activities and thanks to people I met, but at times it was a bit stressful and there were a lot of people, so it was impossible to get to know all fellow interns and difficult to have my questions answered during questions from the audience sessions.
I felt valued more as a part of the whole group than as an individual. We were repeated a few times how talented and smart we were and how each of us could bring something to the bank.
HR team was ready to answer any questions we had and assistance if we had any problems.. Business representatives were also keen on answering our questions. However, my group's mentors were also quite young and not experienced enough to resolve all my doubts.
I developed my presentation skills, teamwork and self-confidence in challenging situations, which will be helpful at university and in the future at work. One week is a very short period of time, but I got to know more about the banking industry and I improved my networking skills.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. On the first day we received schedule for the whole week and everything was running according to it. We had reasonable coffee and lunch breaks, didn't stay up late so we could fully benefit from activities without being too tired.
Good atmosphere between interns, rather friendly ,not too competitive. Sometimes, during events ambiance was quite stressful.
I was surprised how much the company invested in spring interns. HR put a lot of effort to prepare the week. Many employees devoted their time and energy to meet with interns and give talks. Also, interns from outside of London were given accommodation and travel expenses reimbursement. Food (breakfast and lunch) were provided.
Everyday we had sessions on different departments (Treasury, Asset Management, Investor Services, Markets, Sales and Trading). Presentations were given by senior speakers who talked also about their daily job,, sometimes with participation of recent graduates. Due to very limited time they were superficial, but gave an insight into different divisions.
J.P. Morgan's culture and value were stressed constantly throughout the week. Impact of the new CEO was also stressed.
We were given presentations from a few divisions from across the bank. We had numerous opportunities to ask questions to employees from different divisions, also during arranged networking sessions. In such a short time it is not easy to make up one's mind which role is really for them, but the programme gave the first impression of the banking industry,
Everything Else
Travel expenses and accommodation were provided for Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs from outside London.
One official networking session in the evening, one careers fair, one networking lunch, one networking tea.
Employees from different levels came down, it was hard to talk to people from each division, as more popular ones were mobbed, as interns from all streams were together. Locations of events were nice; drinks and nibbles were provided .
I didn't find out a lot in that respect, I think we met only representatives of Women's network.
I would recommend the week to a friend, especially if they think about pursuing a career in banking. It was a very useful and enjoyable week.
