About You
A thrilling experience that more than exceed my expectations and those of the other Spring Week attendees. Extremely well structured, organised and we were provided with a lot of information about J.P. Morgan to help us understand how all the different parts of the bank fit together.
Staff from all levels (from Analysts all the way to MDs) were friendly, approachable and were willing to answer any of your questions honestly. HR reiterated how competitive applications for the Spring Week were to show how valued you were to J.P. Morgan.
They set up an effective mentor system prior to the Spring Week so that you had a contact to whom you could ask any questions and gain an insight into their career. We also had a mentor to guide us with our Group Project to be presented at the end of the week.
We had a presentation on the Macroeconomic outlook for the Euro area which complemented my Macroeconomics paper for my degree and many presentations on effective networking and presentation skills. This helped us to improve our networking both throughout the numerous networking sessions during the course of the week and at future networking events. We gained a real insight into J.P. Morgan and their culture was reflected in the people that you spoke to who all embodied the culture, even though they were from such diverse backgrounds.
The Company
Extremely well structured, we were provided with a timetable that accounted for every minute of the day, with adequately planned breaks throughout the intense but rewarding week.
All the staff were extremely friendly (even HR!) and the fellow Spring Week attendees were also great team players, willing to work hard to deliver a successful presentation at the end of the week. We also had team building exercises and business risk games to make the week more interactive.
We had presentations on networking skills and interview skills that provided valuable information on what J.P. Morgan specifically looks for in interviews.
We got to experience the culture of the firm and work with a mentor who gave us an insight into their day-to-day work. However, we were unable to work-shadow due to compliance restrictions.
The culture was re-iterated by the numerous employees (many of whom were in our position a few years ago) that we had the opportunity to talk to and network with.
I am now considerably more confident that I would be more suited for a career in Investment Banking and that the type of work that I would be doing as an Analyst, Associate and beyond would be of interest to me.
Everything Else
Accommodation provided, transport costs were reimbursed and breakfast, lunch and most dinners were provided.
An incredible number of opportunities to network with employees - during specialist panel sessions, lunch breaks, tea breaks and evening networking events and more!
All the employees were willing to answer your questions honestly and provide you with a good insight into their work and hints and tips for how you can improve your own networking skills.
I had researched the activities before hand so was able to ask employees about their involvement in them, but there was no specific session dedicated to this.
It will provide you with an invaluable insight into a career in Investment Banking - the investment that J.P. Morgan puts into this Spring Week in terms of both time and money is incredible, so if you get a place on the programme make the absolute most of it!
