About You
I found the insight interesting but did not enjoy the atmosphere - we were told from the beginning that we were being judged as to whether we deserved an interview for a summer internship the following year.
The insight only lasted for three days and in such a huge firm I think it will always be hard to feel valued. I felt more valued by other firms with whom I did insights; more contact wth employees, more generosity re reimbursements, food, events
We were given a mentor - each mentor only had one - two mentees so it did feel very personal.
I developed my ability to stick up for my own thoughts - I found other people on the insight very pushy at times. I have been able to carry this through.
The Company
There was a packed timetable which meant that we were never bored. However, the strict timigns meant that some talks had to be cut short which was a shame. There was a wide variety of activities - talks on self-development, games, networking
There was quite a tense atmosphere as everyone was trying to stand out in order to gain a fast-track interview. It felt very competitive throughout and not always enjoyable. I did not particularly feel that I could be myself. Although I found it unpleasant, I am sure that others would thrive off this.
We did not have any outside speakers but JP Employees did take time off to speakto us. There was a networking event which followed on nicely from a talk on "how to network".
The placement took place in the JP Morgan offices themselves which was great, as it was an ideal opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the firm. There were plenty of opportunities to talk to current employees.
Although I perhaps got a negative impression of the company culture, comparing this insight to other similar insights at other firms allowed me to understand the company culture.
Everything Else
We were reimbursed travel costs and were given accommodation.
We had networking drinks one evening, were able to ask lots of questions after talks, ahd networking lunches.
They were fine but often a bit rushed.
I think in an investment bank it is always going to be hard to find out about activites outside of work! The facilites in the offices, however, were incredible.
It was useful to gain knowledge about working for the firm and to find out about what people working for the firmm actually do. However, I did not enjoy the atmosphere of the insight.
