The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. I was based on the trading floor and could barely hold my excitement for the first few days. I can say that it's definitely fast paced and time flies quicker than you think. It was challenging and I learned a great deal personally and professionally. It's definitely not an easy job.
My team contained my manager and 2 other associates who helped me a lot and encouraged me constantly throughout my internship. Everyone else in my extended team was easy-going in general. Technically speaking, I believe the amount of work you get as well as the importance is a direct reflection of how much they value you. Personally speaking, I believe everyone values people in this company. It's the biggest asset.
I can't say more than Fantastic. I sat next to my manager and he definitely helped me a lot with everything. My team-mates as well, any time I had a question they would be there. You must bear in mind they are busy people after all so a little struggle on your behalf is expected. Nothing's worth more than getting your own hands dirty.
I would say that I had days when I struggled, days when I was frustrated on the brink of boredom, but also very productive days which just..made my day. At times I would have to bear in mind that I couldn't finish everything that day and prioritize. On average, I would work more than expected but I think the perfect balance is when you look at the clock and say "oh, it's 5 o'clock" and you're almost done.
I think I was given quite a responsible job. I was working on a large scale application that had releases every week. I had to make sure I do everything accordingly otherwise someone's going to "suffer". Responsibilty can be stresfull at times but it's better than getting bored.
It probably won't help me at all with my studies as they're not specific to this but they will definitely help me a lot with everything else. Communication, Behaviour, connections, understanding of the businness, just getting a rough idea of what the real world deals with.
The Company
It wasn't dull but people where busy so I can't say that I was chatting with people constantly. In the end, they're the ones that make the revenue.
The whole programme that they had set up was very organised and useful. I didn't know almost anything about what I was going to do or what the business was doing and now...oh well..
I think everyone gave their best. In here everyone views interns as the future leaders of the company. We had access to very senior employees and I can definitely say that the company invested everything in me
Sports and Social Club
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
My manager recommended me but I have to wait another week to see.
The Culture
We had loads of events that we could attend, almost two events a week. Also, you meet a lot of people and build relations with like-minded people.
London, do I need to say more?
London, Shoreditch.
To be honest, you manage your own time. In London, I think there's so much to do that you get eclipsed by the opportunities. But then again, timewise..
