The Role
Was quite enjoyable with lots of intern events for networking experiences. Met some great people during my time here. Not coming from a financial degree, the was interesting and challenging for me. Encouraged to shadow others, to get a broader sense of the company
Somewhere in the middle
Tried to meet my manager for a catch up and objectives review at least once a week. Rest of the team were always helpful when I needed help or wanted to ask questions
Because of my particular line of business, trade volumes were not that high so 'business as usual' wasn't too occupying. However, I had other small presentations/ projects to prepare for for other people to keep me busier.
Again, somewhere in the middle, it was only in the last third of my time here that I felt like was given real responsibility and the chance to add value to the team
I now feel a lot more equipped to take on a graduate job in the financial services. I have also developed my independant learning and research skills, along with my ability to communicate with all kinds of people - executives and other interns alike - over different communication platforms such as email, phone, in person, etc. Project management and 'product knowldge' also improved.
The Company
I wasn't say "really fun" but there was a dynamic feel and a good hustle and bustle atmosphere on the trading floor, just maybe not as much on the trade support desk that i was on
had 2 induction days to lay out the general structure of the 10 weeks. The HR team sent weekly emails with information relevent for that week, and at the begin of my time here, i was given a set of weekly objectives by my manager to plan for my progression
Have some very good informative online courses, the general internshiip structure also very good in terms of tracking and building progress
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
Waiting to hear about this still, but the company have made it very clear that they do like to offer places on the grad scheme to deserving interns
The Culture
Excellent, good focus on networking and had many events where the interns could socialise together. We as interns also made the effort in out of work hours to meet up.
It's London so quite expensive, but thats to be expected in the capital.
Loads of bars and loads of places to go with lots of choice, but expensive. Easy to get to and from though because of the underground and night busses
You can never get bored in London. Also had a volunteering day where we worked in restoring/ upkeeping a park
