About You
I did enjoy the insight at Reed Smith. There were a range of social events ad opportunities to network. However, resources confirmed it isn't quite up there with other firms. There were not that may opportunities to develop.
Much of the work I completed cannot at all be considered to be real work. I ended up reading lots of similar files and these were from a number of years ago unfortunately.
I was told by supervisors what was involved for each task. However, this was followed up with rather little support when undertaking these tasks.
The information I received is unlikely to assist me much with my degree. However this for me is not the purpose of a vacation scheme. There was helpful information for deciding what career I would like to undertake in the future.
The Company
The scheme was well structured in that everything ran to time. Graduate recruitment are lovely and were very helpful with answering questions.
The atmosphere was not quite as bad as other firms. People seemed relatively happy. However there was boredom and a general lack of work in the departments.
There were some talks which explained how different parts of a law firm work. These did feel slightly generic though and could be picked up from reading.
I was able to fully understand what it would be like to work at the firm. People were surprisingly honest and this was great and very useful for the future.
The insight was useful in getting a good picture of what the culture is like at Reed Smith. People were friendly. Partners seemed a bit grumpy though.
There was a good range of activities to get involved in. More of a chance to experience Pro Bono work would have been appreciated.
Everything Else
Pay just about covered accommodation in London but not food.
There were opportunities for networking with trainees. However opportunities to speak with other members of staff were very limited.
Social events were nothing special. More thought could have gone into planning a range of activities.
We found out about the other activities. However, we did not really get involved with them or receive too many details.
Working at a good law firm is a great experience. Good mix of work at the firm and generally friendly and fun.
