    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my time at Reed Smith and I am very grateful to have been able to complete this internship in their Marketing department. This was a fantastic learning experience and I have left with a much clearer idea of what a marketing role in a law firm is like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my time at Reed Smith, I was made to feel extremely welcome and well valued by the team. I had the opportunity to contribute to team work and everyone was very encouraging and appreciative of my work. I was invited along to team social, which again made me feel well valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was well supported throughout this internship and the team made sure I got the most out of this internship! As I am undertaking a law degree, but do not want to go down the traditional Solicitor/Barrister route, my team were really fantastic at providing alternative career guidance, which was much appreciated!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was a good balance of work on this internship. I was busy throughout the day, however never overwhelmed by the level of work I was given. If I was ever running out of things to do, my line manager was very good at quickly finding something new for me to work on.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given some responsibility on this internship, however as I was only at Reed Smith for 4 weeks, this limited the amount of responsibility I could be given. However, I was able to take control of the work I was given and work independently on project work I was set.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship was extremely beneficial for my personal development, gaining new skills and vastly expanding my knowledge of legal marketing. As this area was completely new to me, this internship has been immensely important in developing my knowledge and I will be able to use this knowledge going forward as I seek to pursue a career in this area.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a fantastic atmosphere in the offices at Reed Smith. I got a real sense of the inclusive and collegiate atmosphere that is fostered at the firm and employees were more than happy to share their own personal experiences and professional journeys with me. Overall, a very enjoyable atmosphere to be in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised and I cannot fault the set up. On my first day, a representative from HR met me as I entered the building and carried out a thorough induction session. When I was handed over to my team, they were well-prepared for my arrival and I had an IT account and desk area set up. My manager had planned out the work I would complete over the coming weeks and had organised a good programme of activities for me.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt well invested in and the work and activities were aimed at my personal development.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • During my time on the internship, I realised what a fantastic company Reed Smith is and I would love the opportunity to one day return as a full time employee. Once I have completed my studies, I will be looking for roles that will allow me to return, hopefully in the Marketing department.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • As this was an off cycle internship, there were no other interns at Reed Smith at the same time as me. Despite this, I found the social element of the internship to be great, as my team were so outgoing and sociable! On numerous occasions, I would socialise with them outside of work or at lunch times.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being based in London, the cost of living is very high. Although this was an unpaid internship, I had my expenses covered and I was able to live at home, which saved on accommodation costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area is amazing! Being based next to Liverpool Street in the heart of the City, there are so many lovely bars, restaurants and pubs just a short walk away. Also the transport links next to the office are really good so it is really easy to get to different areas of London to experience different nightlife.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, I found out about different opportunities employees can get involved in. As well as sport teams and volunteering opportunities, there are numerous employee networks such as an LGBT network and a multicultural network.
