About You
I found the vacation scheme to be a really outstanding experience, which was made to be engaging and enjoyable by all at Reed Smith. The vacation scheme was seamlessly organised with a diverse range of work, making it a great learning opportunity. Furthermore, excellent social and networking events made this a standout scheme, which provided a great insight into commercial law.
I was made to feel extremely well valued throughout my time at Reed Smith. This was due to the rousing welcome I received from my team and the level of work that they trusted me with. I had the opportunity to work on live cases and was encouraged to contribute thoughts and ideas.
There was plenty of support and guidance on this vacation scheme, which ranged from the graduate recruitment team through to trainee buddies and supervisors, who supported us on a day to day basis. I found my trainee buddy to be particularly supportive, providing me with valuable career advice and guidance.
During this vacation scheme, I developed a whole host of invaluable skills and experience. This vacation scheme focused on skills based sessions. These skills will be particularly useful for pursuing a career in law. Furthermore, the scheme demonstrated how important the skill of writing is for a career based in law, and the development of writing skills will inevitably benefit me in my degree.
The Company
I found the vacation scheme at Reed Smith to be very well structured and the organisation to be flawless. The introductory session on the first morning was particularly useful, allowing us to slowly ease into the firm, calming any nerves, and was a great way to get to know the other interns on the programme. There was a great structure to the rest of the scheme, with a good variety of engaging work and skills sessions.
There was a great general atmosphere throughout the vacation scheme and everyone was very friendly. A vacation scheme at a well-regarded international law firm is a daunting experience, however, we were immediately made to feel at ease. Whilst the offices are professional and staff are very much focused on their individual roles, everyone was more than happy to engage with us, answering all of our questions.
Reed Smith invested a great deal into our personal development and training, providing us with a variety of training and development exercises. Specific training sessions included a cultural awareness workshop, a negotiation skills workshop and a presentation workshop. In addition to this, the opportunity to partake in a mock employment tribunal was particular beneficial for personal development.
This vacation scheme provided a very good insight into what it would be like to have a full-time role at Reed Smith. We had the opportunity to speak with current trainee associates and ask them any questions we liked, giving a thorough insight into what life at Reed Smith is like.
By having the opportunity to interact constantly with employees at all levels, I gained a good understand of the culture within the firm, which is very reflective of the hard-working, yet friendly staff they employ. Spending time at Reed Smith, it was evident that the firm is open and non hierarchical.
I found the vacation scheme to be extremely valuable as it solidified my intentions to pursue a career within an international commercial law firm. I had the amazing opportunity to witness multi-jurisdictional disputes first hand and being able to become involved in work of this quality confirmed my intentions to pursue a career in the legal sector.
Everything Else
I was paid 拢330 per week for this vacation scheme, which covered accommodation and travel costs.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking on this vacation scheme. During the first week, we had a number of formal networking sessions where we had the opportunity to meet all of the supervisors and trainee buddies During the second week, the firm organised a cocktail making session, which was followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant. In addition to the networking session organised as part of the vacation scheme, we were lucky enough to be invited to the summer party!
I found he networking and social events to be very enjoyable!
Yes, there are frequent social events at Reed Smith that employees have the opportunity to partake in. Also, there is a strong focus on pro-bono work, providing employees an opportunity to 'give back'.
Yes, I would definitely recommend this vacation scheme to a friend!
