    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was interesting but there was little direct interaction with the customer, and work could become slightly repetitive.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Even thought the rest of the team had been working at MBDA for many years and had been together for many years on the same project they were very welcoming and friendly.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management style at MBDA is currently change from the old competitive and stand-offish style developed in the industry during the cold war, and therefore support and guidance was hard to gain then I would have desired.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work balance was generally level and manageable but had areas of extreme activity before customer milestones and lulls after which caused periods of high stress or boredom.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a high level of responsibility on certain aspects of the model and in particular a particular derivative model that was going to be used by another section of the project to create an interactive tool for the model.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I gained during the placement will have a minimal impact on my current degree programme which has very limited modelling content but the understanding of a missile system and the components within that system will help me to tremendously mentally focus me for the final years of my degree programme.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere was very dynamic and took a while to get used to, though the general atmosphere was light and friendly.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The MBDA placement was very well structured from a top-down approach from the HR side, but due to the fact the placements day to day running is left to the employing department the organisation on the 'front-line' varied extremely across the departments.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The personal training and development supplied by the HR controlled section of the placement was extensive and extremely useful. Though due to confusion within the department i was working for direct job training was very limited in content.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After the initial interview process to gain the placement within MBDA I'm guarantied a job as long as a suitable position is available for me to fill after I have completed my degree. I'm guarantied a job offer to refuse.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social interaction between all members of the FDP, Formal Development Programme, is encourage from the first week when there is a week long course covering both work and social aspects of MBDA, along with nightly social events including bowling, eating out and clubbing. This means there is normally a weekly memo for all the graduates/undergraduates inviting anyone to participate in some social gathering or other.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living and socialising costs can be quite high as Stevenage is the first train station on the high-speed line to London and is therefore a popular commuter town which will always drive up local costs but the pay is set at the high London rate within the local area to compensate.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
