The Role
I enjoyed my placement as it gave me a good oppurtunity to work in a real environment. I was treated as much as a resource as any other employee but with an understanding that I was an inexperienced undergraduate. The work was interesting and I was also given the opportunity to travel and see hardware in trials and was able to get exposure to a lot of people in the company as well as outside suppliers.
As mentioned above I was treated well work wise with an understanding of my abilities. I was not given remedial tasks and others would come to me for answers on things they believed I knew about, so my work was useful and opinions and answers valued. All the coleagues I worked with during my time were very friendly and it never seemed as though they felt they only had to spoke to me because they worked with me
Whenever I had questions on something I didn't understand I could always rely on being able to speak to my manager. They would also give me help getting into the work and explain things to a level of understanding required. My managers were also very understandind of my personal needs over work.
As I did 2 placmeents within the company I experienced different workloads. My first placement was slightly on the light side for work, due to the nature of the work, but this was nicely offset by work I was doing for university as part of my placement. My second placement has easily kept me occupied with work, the only complaint maybe in finding time for the university work. Being able to get plenty of overtime was a plus in this placement.
My first placement I feel I was given more responsibility to do my own thing, though this could have been due to me being very comfortable with the work when I got into it. In my second placement as I took more of a project management type role which I was unfamiliar with I reported back to my manager a lot more but my responsibilities were as much if not more than my first placement.
I believe everything I have learned here will help towards my work life beyond university. The skills I have learned and training recieved I feel will help in my degree in that I am more aware of processes in the real world and my working attitude and understanding will have changed to the benefit of my studies
The Company
The general atmosphere was light hearted, although obviously every now and then deadlines resulting in work stress can play a part. It never felt like doom and gloom
As the company has a lot of graduates, undergraduates and summer placements they were well organised in setting up and acommodating me in my placement
The company actively encouraged me to take part in training courses and set up essential courses that I would be required to take to fulfil my job role. However sometimes even when requesting training it is not always available and some courses I requested have been given to me as dates beyond my leaving date. The company is looking into how to improve this and I would recommend requesting training early

Once in the door as a placement 西瓜视频 you are looked upon as a potential employee. So it is virtually up to you if you want to stay
The Culture
Fellow placement 西瓜视频s would often set up nights out or other events. There were also events set up by the company for the placement 西瓜视频s to go to.
I lived in Hatfield (approx 15-20mins away) during my placement as this was where I am at university and already had a house to live in there form the previous year so was paying stdunet acomodation rates. The cost of socialising and living in general was good.
As above with living in Hatfield I wasn't always involved with the Stevenage nightlife unless out with other placement 西瓜视频s. Hatfield doesn't have a great nightlife but Stevenage has enough places to be satisfied.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved outside of work in activities such as sport tournaments and trips to theatres etc. I great deal of these could be found, and more, on the socialising site on the company intranet.
