Overview
Use knowledge of Human Factors to conduct research. Work with a number of other teams to develop project further. Involves meetings, both virtually and face to face. Talking with suppliers. Using software.
Skills
Yes. Used skills learned at university throughout the entire placement. I got to develop these skills as I was using them every day and I was teaching others in my team about the skills I have that they might not have. Learned a lot of technical skills that are specific to the industry.
Responsibilities
Yes. My team trusted me to work independently and gave me my own responsibilities. Your manager / team do check in and support when needed, but they let you lead your own work and complete it hoe you see best is fit.
Support & Guidance
A lot of support and guidance. In the first few months there was a large focus on technical knowledge and understanding your project. People in the team would meet with you just to run through things for your understanding if needed. Placement manager would guide me when necessary and I always had people in the team to ask for help.
Culture
My team was a good mix of young and more senior people. The atmosphere was lively when working on site and everyone is extremely friendly. We got on well and went out for a lot of socials. The wider company is very similar and teams would be quite close with one and other.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. I had a great time overall with my team and I will miss them when I leave - and I wish to return to the same team. The work was fulfilling and enjoyable and I enjoyed the challenge that came with learning about a new project in such depth.
Yes
Be yourself when interviewing for the role. The teams are very friendly and very inclusive of everybody. Trust yourself to make judgement calls and complete work how you see fit.
