Overview
Weekly meetings with the wider team. Daily 15 minute catch up with line manager to ensure I'm happy with my work. Ticket work which varies from any aspect of software engineering.
Skills
Learnt new languages and way of programming. Went on courses to develop UML and programming skills. Increased soft skills with lots of STEM outreach events.
Responsibilities
I was given as much or as little responsibility as I wanted. It was completely up to me which allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone but also know that I could ask for help and decrease my responsibly and work load if I was struggling.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from my line manager but I was also able to ask anyone else in the office for help without feeling like an annoyance or distraction. Everyone was friendly and always made the time to help me.
Culture
Very friendly and open. I felt comfortable enough to be myself at work. Everyone cared about everyone else and there was a real sense of community.
Your Impressions
I hugely enjoyed my placement. I was nervous at the start as it was all unknown and I was worried I would struggle with the work. But the support I received from my line manager and colleagues meant I settled in quickly and really enjoyed being in the office.
Yes
Be yourself and try to relax. It was obvious from my interview that they wanted the best from me and would ask questions after my initial answer to help me improve my response. As a placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ they don't expect you to know everything and so ask questions. Expressing your interest to learn will help massively.
