  • Support Modelling and Data Engineer supporting the Typhoon and Hawk Aircraft through availability and reliability based modelling of components and systems. Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I developed my own models and systems, I also managed to get some leadership experience during my time, presented my work to senior members of the organisation even at director level, models developed managed circa 100million 拢 worth of assets each week, so a lot of responsibility

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Slow, outdated and 'This has never been the way we have done it before' was the typical pushback you would receive. The company itself looks after you really well and the atmosphere as a result is a good one. The world of support is a really ageing demographic and so I was working day to day with 50-60 year olds looking to retire, as a 21 year old.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I did enjoy it - but coming into the business I expected something more fast paced and technical specific, like Aerodynamics or Propulsion related. It is nothing of the sort. It is all excel based spreadsheet pushing and if you do not actively seek work you probably won't receive it, however if you ask for work it comes quick and heavy

  • Please rate the future employment prospects at BAE Systems
  • 4/5

  • 7. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
  • Really read the job description and go for a specific role that directly mentions the areas/software you are interested in. If designing your own systems/ applying theory is a big thing for you then I would recommend to try and get into a testing/ design role in either future fighter or test and evaluation, if maths and coding is interesting to you, go into support.
