Overview
My daily tasks involve requirement, design, coding, and debugging. I work as a part of a team and have a daily scrum where I report what I have been up to. I also take part in out reach projects.
Skills
I have learnt about software engineering in the Industry, and the processes you have to follow. This includes source control via git, taking part in daily scrums, and understanding how to use management tools like Jira. I have developed my technical skills through hands on experience.
Responsibilities
I have been able to work independently on tasks, and I have responsibility over my own work.
Support & Guidance
I have received a lot of support: - A buddy who I was able to contact before I even started to ask questions, and who I was able to shadow when I first started - My line manager who makes sure I have enough work to do and a variety of stretching tasks - My team who are very experienced in Software engineering and give me advice
Culture
I have loved the company culture, there is a real emphasis on inclusions. Everyone has made me feel very welcomed
Your Impressions
I have loved my placement and I would recommend everyone at University complete a placement year. I have learnt so much and made loads of friends.
Yes
Be yourself! Make sure you show passion for engineering and the vision of the company. It is more important to show off your soft skills in the interview as they are looking at how good of a fit you would be. Do not be put off from applying if you feel you don't have tons of technical experience as there is so much opportunity to learn.
