    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Spring Insight Programme at J.P. Morgan was a five-day experience designed to give a comprehensive overview of the firm’s different lines of business. Each day focused on a specific division, such as Investment Banking, Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, and Risk Management. The days typically ran from 9 AM to 5 PM and included a mix of business presentations, panel discussions, networking events, and interactive workshops. Mornings often started with talks from senior professionals introducing their division and explaining their roles. This was followed by Q&A sessions and interactive case studies or simulations, depending on the department. Afternoons were usually dedicated to skills-based sessions (e.g., communication, teamwork, problem-solving), as well as networking opportunities with recent graduates, analysts, and other employees. The programme also included a social event, allowing participants to connect with professionals in a more relaxed setting. Overall, the insight combined learning, interaction, and practical exposure to the firm’s culture and business areas.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, definitely. Throughout the week, I developed my communication and networking skills by speaking with professionals from different divisions and backgrounds. I also improved my ability to ask clear and relevant questions, especially during panel sessions and networking events. Additionally, I gained a better understanding of how to collaborate effectively in group exercises, and I feel that my commercial awareness and knowledge of the firm’s business areas have also grown significantly.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was really eye-opening and inspiring. I didn’t realise how many different roles existed within the firm, and it helped me understand how each team contributes to the bigger picture. The presentations and networking sessions made it much clearer which roles could suit my skills and interests, especially in Markets, which I’m particularly drawn to. It also gave me a better sense of the day-to-day responsibilities and the kind of mindset needed for each position.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
  • My advice would be to stay authentic and show a genuine interest in the firm and the financial industry. Take time to understand JPMorgan’s values and different business areas, and don’t hesitate to connect with current or former interns to gain insight. During the application process, focus on your motivation, your willingness to learn, and how your personal experiences have shaped your interest in finance. Finally, don’t stress too much about having deep technical knowledge — being curious, engaged and open-minded matters just as much.
