Overview
Day 1, we have a few insight talk about working in JPMC. Day 2, mainly workshops about working in software engineering in different teams. Day 3, the talks are more focused on knowledge base, with a speed networking at the end. Day 4 and 5 focused on a hackathon and we created a web app for Plants Heritage.
Skills
Yes. First of all I understand more about how an industry works. This makes me realise it’s a must to be flexible and adaptable to any job opportunities. During the hackathon, I start to learn more about frontend development, as I was previously focusing on backend. After this hackathon, I will learn more about frontend during my spare time, in order to be more like a full stack developer.
Business Insight
I did talk to a lot of SEP and some developers about their work in their teams. I realise that there’s a huge variety of software engineering jobs in JPMC, including AI and LLM, which I worked a lot on it previously, or more like a front office position involving in CIB. And I do think I will research in tech in CIB and learn the skills needed for that.
Culture
When I was asking about the work culture in JPMC, every answer that I got was really good. People don’t regularly work overtime, there are communities, BRGs to join. Also, JPMC being supportive and encouraging innovative thoughts is really important. The internal mobility also ensures that if we really want to try out new positions in another team, we got the chance to do that. Furthermore, all people I met during Spring are nice.
Your Impressions
I really learnt a lot, get to talk to people and understand their work, also their experiences in JPMC. By listening to multiple people working in different teams, I was able to get a more rounded understanding of the program SEP, also working in JPMC. The talks are really nice, especially from Grace Peters in day 1. The workshops are amazing and fun, learning in an interactive and interesting way is always efficient.
