Overview
Days 1 to 3 consisted of workshops on different areas within software engineering, such as agile development, digital payments and test-driven-development. Many talks also took place about different areas of business such as Asset and Wealth Management and how technology is incorporated into these business areas at J.P. Morgan. The final two days consisted of a hackathon called Code for Social Good, where participants created a solution for charities and presented there ideas and technical solution.
Skills
Throughout the week, I learned a lot about the different business functions and the importance of tech within each. This was through the talks and also by networking with current employees. I also bettered my understanding of how software engineering takes place to solve real-world problems.
Business Insight
Since J.P. Morgan serves so many lines of business, there were many new insights that I gained about the business side of the company. I also met many people who work at the company in different technical roles and was very interested in many of the roles and the work that they do on a day-to-day basis.
Culture
The company culture was very accepting and friendly - new graduate developers at the company as well as senior employees were very open to sharing their experiences throughout the week and all seemed to be very passionate about the work they do.
Your Impressions
The entire experience was very enjoyable for me, as there was a good balance of activities and talks as well as a hackathon, which made for a very engaging experience.
Yes
I would recommend that other applicants aim to show their interest towards the company and its operations. In addition, I would recommend including something that makes you unique as an individual, whether it be an extracurricular activity or a voluntary role, as this will give a reason as to why you should be offered the chance to join J.P. Morgan
