Overview
Fundamentally, I have been working as a software engineer. The day-to-day has involved using a variety of coding languages to create and enact specific behaviour for proof-of-concept demonstrations. Furthermore, I have used a large array of software tools to both aid the demonstrations and to aid in the debugging stages. I have also had the freedom to engage with a variety of voluntary projects like the Flying Start programme.
Skills
Yes absolutely. I had very little coding knowledge before the placement and am now competent using C#, C++ and MVVM. Furthermore, my presentational and organisational skills have vastly improved due to the work I have been tasked with.
Responsibilities
This evidently varied between projects but I was always given freedom to express my ideas and, in projects where it was possible, I was accounted a large amount of responsibility with the necessary support to help me deal with it.
Support & Guidance
I received quite a lot of support throughout the entirety of the placement with all colleagues very willing, able and happy to explain concepts to me when necessary.
Culture
It is a friendly workplace with a nice office space. The Early Careers Programme especially was very sociable and offered a really nice way to get settled into the company.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed this placement and it has opened up a new avenue of exploration for my future careers as I study Aerospace Engineering and had never before considered a career in software.
Yes
- Take a legitimate interest in the company and try to demonstrate it throughout the process - Be very friendly, open and social
