    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role is based around managing the order-to-delivery cycles of various customers. This involves processing orders, managing internal and external portfolios, creating and analysing KPIs with Excel spreadsheets and working to improve the efficiency of our operations. Throughout the placement, you work extensively with Excel and SAP, which develops your technical skills. But, you also collaborate closely with many teams across the business, as well as the customer, which strengthens your interpersonal and communication skills.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Primarily the role has developed my technical skills, especially on Excel and SAP, as the majority of my day-to-day work uses these softwares. I have also developed my presentation and communication skills, and have gained a clearer perspective of how to work within a company and in professional manner. Taking on additional projects has also strengthened my networking skills and gave me the opportunity to explore other areas of the business which interested me.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I feel like this year I have been given just as much responsibility as any other L'Oreal employee. But, I have also constantly had a network of support available to me in case I ever felt overwhelmed. I've been encouraged to find the balance of feeling challenged (e.g. by taking on projects and new tasks), but also prioritising my stress levels (my manager was happy to take workload off of me where needed).

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Personally, I have received good support and guidance this year. There is a mentoring scheme at L'Oreal, which is great for this. However, I would say that this is somewhat dependant on who your manager is. Most managers are very supportive, but some are less so - but there is always someone available within your team who you can reach out to.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In general the company has a great culture and there are various events through the year to bring everyone together. Besides this, the culture really varies from division to division, as does the budget for socials (CPD is known for being the most social). The company also really prioritises work-life balance and the idea of switching off from work at 5 o'clock, which I appreciate a lot.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Overall, I have really enjoyed my internship at L'Oreal and would definitely recommend it as a placement. I have felt a perfect balance of being challenged within my role and having time to keep a work-life balance. I have had access to plenty of resources to learn new skills and develop myself throughout the year and have come out of it more confident looking ahead to after university.

  • 7. Would you recommend L'Oreal to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • Spend time researching into L'Oreal, its values and any upcoming initiatives so you can show your interest in the company and what it stands for. Be yourself and show your personality and why you would be great to work with. One thing, which was not mentioned until the end of my internship, is that the grad scheme is not open to international 西瓜视频s (if this is important to you when choosing a placement).
