The Role
The work placement was very enjoyable. It was a very useful introduction to how large American investment banks operate on a practical basis and gave a good insight into the industry. I would very much like to work at this institution in the future based on my 10 week internship experience.
The work I was involved in was used by members of the team on a daily basis, and everyone was very approachable in terms of asking questions whenever anything needed clarifying. There were social events after work that the interns were frequently invited to attend. Colleagues were generally very supportive.
Managers and colleagues, both from within my immediate team and from around the bank, were always very helpful in the event that anything was unclear or needed clarifying. I was made to feel that the questions I was asking were important even if they were just operational or administrative. Guidance on tasks was always available.
I was given enough time to balance both the work required for the completion of my individual summer internship project, but I also had sufficient time to network and spend time working outside the immediate team to the wider business areas to learn more about what different divisions are responsible for.
I was given responsibility for daily tasks that were distributed to senior team members. Although the nature of the business is such that there isn't much scope for junior members to do things on their own, I thought the balance between business as usual tasks and wider tasks were helpful to the team.
Training provided will be very helpful in future job roles. It was very useful for getting an operational insight into the theoretics and fundamentals learned at university. The training was relevant to day to day job roles but also was useful to get a better background understanding of financial markets and risk management.
The Company
Given that the line of business to which I was aligned is based on the trading floor, the atmosphere is very energetic and high paced which has been very enjoyable. There is also a very strong culture of respect amongst colleagues so the general atmosphere has always been very pleasant.
Organization was very good throughout the internship experience, through the interview process, to onboarding, to induction week and continued support throughout the duration of the internship. The Early Careers teem have been very prompt in answering any questions that the interns have, and even hold weekly drop in sessions if you would rather discuss face to face.
The first week was purely training and orientation, in order to prepare you on a practical level for the tasks in which you will be involved with on a daily basis. There were also teach in specific to the business area as well as soft skills seminars throughout the internship.

Future employment prospects are very appealing given how much I have enjoyed the experience - I will definitely apply for future schemes at the bank. I have heard only good things from early recruits who are at later stages of the employment process who have been in the job for longer than I have.
The Culture
Very good - lots of social events.
