About You
Absolutely loved the J.P. Morgan Spring Into Technology Insight programme. The whole programme is very well organised with a range of activities including presentations, work shadowing, coding challenges, networking with staff and social events. Never got bored at any point in the programme and felt like I was learning a lot every step of the way. Would definitely recommend you apply for this spring if looking for an insight into the technology division in corporate banking.
It was very clear that the campus recruitment team puts a lot of effort into this programme and into making sure everyone has the best experience. There was a good number of us, (49) and I felt like everyone was hand picked to be there. The ratio for work shadowing - 2 spring participants to 1 employee worked really well and gave us the opportunity to get to know the person you were shadowing.
For most of the challenges and activities the level of support was outstanding and although I was challenged I did not at any point feel out of my depth. I felt like I picked up a lot of tips for how work is done in the technology division and was guided on how to complete activities. The level of feedback given after some activities could have been improved though.
I definitely feel like the team working and problem solving skills developed will help me in any areas in my degree and in professional environments later on. Lots of insightful and interesting information relating to corporate technology and J.P. Morgan was given which will definitely be helpful in the summer internship application process.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with a range of different activities. The first day included presentations at the beginning which was the right choice as after this, most of the activities were a lot more hands on. Having multiple work shadowing sessions on 2 different days was a good idea and each day was structured well.
The atmosphere was amazing. All the representatives were welcoming, happy to help and happy to talk to you about their role or anything relating to J.P. Morgan and technology. The preconception of people in banks/finance being very arrogant was definitely proven wrong. The only time when the atmosphere was maybe not the best was during one of the work shadowing sessions where the atmosphere was a bit more subdued and unhappy for some reason.
The firm invested a lot in the spring participants with presentations on different areas within the technology division and coding challenges focusing on team working and problem solving skills. It was also extremely useful being able to spend time with representatives from different levels in the company as they could give lots of insightful advice.
The insight definitely helped a great deal with gaining an insight into working in the company. Aside from giving an overview of the roles within the technology division, speaking to the employees gave a real in depth insight into many areas of the company and what a day to day would look like.
The insight definitely showcased J.P. Morgan's culture of using the best talent to solve problems and giving people opportunity to move around in the business. Most of the understanding of the culture came from speaking to business representatives which was a great way to get to know what people within the company are generally like.
The content was very valuable in helping to decide future career path as speaking to employees and seeing what it was like to work at J.P. Morgan and what career progression is like, helped me to make decisions about future career paths I am considering. The insight did a good Job of showing how people progress over the years.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed but some people were given hotel accommodation and flights or travel reimbursements.
There were so many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm and I think this is one of the main strengths of the insight week. There were social networking events, networking lunches and work shadowing which all gave us the opportunity to meet representatives and understand more about the culture,
Most of the networking events were great and allowed enough time with and variety of business representatives to get to know the firm better and understand different business areas and opportunities. The only thing that could have been improved was the networking event on the tuesday evening as there were few representatives and they were the mentors we had been working with for most of the day so we had already spoke to a lot of them
Yes the employees spoke about lots of activities they can get involved in outside of work such as Force for Good, a social initiative where employees can give up their time and use their technical skills to contribute to a charity organisation by helping to improve or provide a solution for their activities.
