About You
I enjoyed my time in J.P. Morgan very much, getting to meet a lot of diverse people was a lot of fun and allowed me to further develop my social interaction skills with new people. The challenges throughout the week were engaging and fun, getting to work with new people in new teams every day helped develop my team building and communication skills as everyone came from different backgrounds (and subjects).
I felt very valued and feel like the people I made friends with have been friends for months and not 3 days! The staff were all very fun and helpful and not once did I feel like I was an outsider. Everyone I met through activities and networking were helpful and informative, and made me feel very comfortable asking lots of different questions.
The guidance I received during the insight was very helpful and allowed me to understand more about the business of JP Morgan and what I can expect if I decide to proceed and pursue a career in JP Morgan. The support we received when asking questions about what to do if we want to do x was great!
I feel as though my communication and team building skills have been improved through the review of feedback from mentors and such during the challenges. These skills will be particularly helpful for myself next year as the main focus in 3rd year are group projects and working with clients.
The Company
I feel like the insight was structured very well, and we kept to the times planned very well without much wasted time. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is allowing the employees who we shadow to be prepared in what they do/show us while we are with them as it felt like a lot of time was spent idle or thinking about what to say, which impacts their work negatively as they have given up time that is essentially wasted. The challenges were structured very well although there is room for improvement in little areas of challenges (explanation of problems that mentors might see for example).
Everyone seemed very comfortable during the insight, especially when teamed up with people they previously had not worked with. Everyone was respectful and playful and kept spirits high throughout the days we were there.
I feel as though there was a larger focus on team work and how team members interacted as a whole, rather than how individuals can improve to then improve the overall standard of the team. Individual feedback would be more beneficial as it means we can reflect personally on how we act towards team members and what we bring to our team.
After speaking to graduates, current employees who have just moved on from the grad scheme and also current long time employees, I got a much better understanding into the culture of JP Morgan and how it feels to work in the Glasgow branch, with things such as how clocking hours works and how the team members interact with each other.
As my previous point, after speaking to a range of employees I got a much better understanding into the culture of JP Morgan and how it feels to work in the Glasgow branch specifically, however we were told about the different types of cultures in other branches throughout the UK.
I am still personally unsure to the career path I want to take as there are so many options, however the content of the insight allowed me to see different departments and hear what employees in both junior and senior roles had to say about their work and their experiences.
Everything Else
There were multiple opportunities to speak to lots of JP staff through lunches and evening socials, all of which I found very useful and fun!
Fantastic. I got the opportunity to speak to lots of people in lots of different roles (such as analysts, developers, managers etc.) in different departments and got to hear about their experiences. They also answered questions which I asked them and this allowed me to get a further understanding into how they work and the type of people I could potentially be working with in the future.
There wasn't much focus on this.
Definitely, as it was a lot of fun and allowed me to make lots of new friends from different locations and backgrounds. The team exercises were great and allowed a lot of people to bond and have fun. Different skills were developed and I got to experience things which I have not experienced in university life.
