    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My time at JP Morgan was not only enjoyable, but incredible from a development perspective. Employees were welcoming and always willing to assist me whenever I needed it. It is clear to see that the employees at JP Morgan are very passionate about what they do and strike to always deliver the best results.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I immediately felt welcomed, and the amount of effort and planning that went into the programme was very evident to see. My fellow team members were extremely welcoming and got me involved in additional projects they thought I might be interested in. I was always invited to after work dinners and drinks, and this made me feel like a valued member of the time.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Despite my line manager and team having very demanding roles, they always made the time to guide me through my work. My line manager would always set aside at least an hour per week to spend me with and provide constructive feedback on my work. We also had informal chats concerning my future (inside and outside the firm), my further education and building my network within the firm.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was a lot of information to process in a short space of time and, as a result, I was very busy on a daily basis. For times where there was a lull in work, I would speak to my team members to get extra work or spend this time networking. Due to the busy nature of the role,I learnt to manage my time more effectively.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot more responsibility than I was expecting. I was given ownership of my individual projects and my team and line manager trusted me to oversee these projects. The responsibility gave me the opportunity to demonstrate what I was capable of achieving and help me develop new skills such as project and stakeholder management.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I truly learnt life long skills during my time at JP Morgan. It is amazing how much you can develop in such a short space of time. Skills such as time management have benefited me since returning to University this year. I also realised the importance of networking in the workplace and improved my confidence and communication skills vastly.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I had preconceptions of what the atmosphere would be like at JP Morgan, so I was surprised to discover how supportive and motivating the atmosphere actually is. I found the employees at JP Morgan to be very encouraging. There is a good team spirit and we regularly went for drinks when it was someone's birthday or someone was promoted etc.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely well set up and I really cannot fault the organisation of this programme. The HR team kept us well informed at every stage and I was always clear on what was happening. JP Morgan organised a number of social events for the interns, as well as networking events and a brilliant Speaker Series. HR were fast to respond to any queries and always felt comfortable to approach them.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was very evident just how much time and energy that JP Morgan has invested in the programme. Before joining, I was required to complete online training, which provided a good base knowledge in investment banking. There were multiple trainings organised for all the interns across lines of businesses to gained a more nuance picture of the business. I found these training to be very useful. The senior management speaker series was also really beneficial as we got to hear from senior leaders about their career progression.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are strong future career prospects at JP Morgan. If you are willing to work hard and demonstrate your ability on the internship programme, you will most likely be offered a place on the graduate scheme. Most of us were offered a role. The internship demonstrated to me what it would be like to work at the firm as a full time employee and I look forward to returning after my studies.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst interns. We would socialise together most lunch times and would often go for drinks after work etc. We formed a strong bond and everyone was very supportive of each other. We would help each other out when we could. JP Morgan also organised a number of social events for us and these events were good fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being based in London, the cost of living is very high. However, as I go to University in London, I was always expecting this and luckily had accommodation where I could stay. In Canary Wharf, the cost of socialising is high as this is where many of the major financial institutions are based, which drives the cost up. However, it is very easy to get to other parts of London where the cost of drinks etc. are much cheaper.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are lots of nice bars and restaurants in Canary Wharf, however, I do prefer to social in other parts of London as it is quite expensive in this area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are numerous sports clubs to get involved, such as football and softball. There are a number of ‘BRGs’ (Business Resource Groups), which employees can get involved in. I also know that there are multiple charity events that run throughout the year.
