The Role
I enjoyed working at J.P. Morgan. The project I was working on, and the team that I was working within, were both outstanding. We were given control over our project to make critical decisions. The team was also given the freedom to self-organize to ensure everyone was comfortable with their tasks and was able to take on additional work to grow technically.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone was supportive of the team and helped teammates when needed. Additionally, during our meetings everyone's thoughts and ideas were heard and discussed to determine their viability. As a result, everyone in the team was able to add a unique contribution to the project.
My supervisors were very helpful throughout the internship. I had weekly meetings with my manager to discuss my progress, goals, or anything else of importance. It was also easy to get guidance from management when the team was unsure of something technically and professionally. Further, we were given technical mentors and buddies as additional resources for technical and professional guidance.
I had a mixture of daily tasks. On a daily basis, I would spend some time writing code, testing, and documenting. We as a team had frequent meetings whenever we felt they were required to discuss any suggestions or problems. Additionally, some days the interns had additional activities like networking events or learning sessions.
My team and I were given a large amount of responsibility for our project. We started from scratch with it and were responsible for presenting progress to wider teams so that they could understand and leverage our work. The team also had the responsibility of ensuring all of our documentation was solid enough for others to use the work when we leave.
I've gained many skills through this internship. I was able to improve the manner in which I connected with individuals around the firm. From a technical perspective, I learned more about software development in a professional setting, including organization of team members and the organization of code. It will be extremely applicable to group and personal projects in the future.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was more relaxed, as it is the tech hub. The office space is very open and inviting. We were given free movement between desks. The general space is felt like a small community, and as such we were exposed to individuals with many different jobs from grads to MD's.
J.P Morgan invests heavily in personal training and development. All interns were assigned to a technical mentor to discuss any technical issues and foster any technical interests we have. Additionally, we were given buddies on the grad scheme to discuss professional development. Further, there are many learning events and a learning portal within J.P. Morgan to develop technically.

From the start it is clear that interns have future employment prospects on the grad scheme. The regular meetings with managers allowed us to consistently gain feedback to make sure we were performing. We had a mid-internship review with our manager and HR to discuss the our prospect of gaining a place on the grad scheme, which was helpful as it gave time to adjust to any points of improvement to ensure we would be in the best position to get a place on the grad scheme.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene among the fellow interns/placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs. J.P. Morgan hosted many events for the interns to socialize with each other, from socials at pubs to events for charity. Additionally, we all had lunch together and became closer, which led to us organizing events among ourselves.
