The Role
It provided a really valuable opportunity to see what working in the financial industry is like - being such a large company meant that it was easy to see a broad cross section of roles within this sector.
My colleagues were very supported and treated me as an equal, ensuring that I was given interesting work to do and being readily available to offer guidance where needed.
My manager was very helpful, both in work-related matters and in helping me to develop professionally.
There were some pretty quiet days, my group is very specialised so there isn't always a lot that an intern can do to help. It got very busy at around month end (involved staying late) but I feel that this was a valuable experience as this is an unavoidable part of the job.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, being asked to send out reports and documents that make up an important part of the my group does - mistakes in this do have actual consequences so I was glad that my colleagues felt that they could trust me to do this properly.
I think that if I do end up going into finance long term then the knowledge and skills gained will be invaluable. Short-term not so much as it's not all that relevant to my degree course.
The Company
Everyone was very focused and professional, but not so much that the atmosphere was oppressive - with plenty of friendly chatting in between focused periods of work. It's a genuinely enjoyable office to work in.
Very professionally done, everything was well planned out and ran smoothly
The online learning platforms were very helpful for this and a good deal of effort and resources went into ensuring that I could work as a productive member of the team.

I'm planning to do a PhD, but afterwards, if I don't decide to go into academia long term, the more quantitative roles in the company seem very interesting and appealing. I was provided with plenty of guidance on how to go about this.
The Culture
Pretty good in general, the social events ran as part of the internship were fun. Not being on the same floor as many other interns somewhat limited interaction with others on the same program but instead I was able to interact more with full-time employees.
It's London, it's expensive.
Pretty good, Canary Wharf has plenty of nice bars where a number of social events were held. I'm sure London in general has some great nightlife, but I didn't end up doing all that much of it.
There's a number of "Extra-curricular" (if that's the right term) groups within the company that we were encouraged to take part in. I didn't though.
