    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my summer internship, even though it was hard work. I most enjoyed meeting people from different lines of business and learning about their jobs. Everyone was friendly and made you feel welcome. The programme was very well run and well structured, which helped me make the most of my time there and learn lots.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As it was the summer, a lot of people were away on holiday. This meant that as the internship progressed I was given more and more responsibility to do tasks for the analyst. This was very rewarding, although as the team was overstretched, my manager didn't have much time to give. Despite this, I did feel like I was contributing to the team's work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given limited support, however, this was because the team was so busy. My analyst buddy was very helpful and friendly, and always had time to show me what he was doing, answer any questions and review my projects with me. I was praised for my independence, as it meant that the team were able to do their tasks which were highly time sensitive.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied day to day, but I was generally fairly busy. I had 2 ongoing projects throughout the internship which I could always do if I did not have any other jobs to do. There were a couple of occasions where I felt very busy, or not busy enough, but on the whole there was a fairly good balance. As part of the programme, there were weekly meetings to attend with the other analysts which I enjoyed and we got to speak to and learn about other areas of the business.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As the internship went on, I was trusted to do more and more tasks. I felt as though I was given responsibility, as the tasks I was given were ultimately working towards something that would be presented to a client. The work flow, however, depended on how busy the analyst was, as well as whether I could complete the tasks by myself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills I have learnt will help me in my future career, as this is the industry I would like to work in. I learnt a lot of practical skills, as well as time management and organisation which are very important skills for summer analysts to master.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was generally friendly and calm. As it was summer, the office was not as busy as it would be during the rest of the year. I was made to feel very welcome and people were always willing to make time for you to answer any questions and talk to you about their career and role.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The summer internship is well established and extremely well organised. There were regular intern events and weekly learning opportunities with the other summer analysts. We were given projects to complete throughout the internship and our progress was monitored. We were kept well informed of the programme schedule, and were in constant communication with the intern managers, which was helpful.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a week of training at the start of the internship before we started with our teams. There were weekly analyst training sessions with the other summer interns, where we had the opportunity to learn about the other lines of business. People were always willing to make time to talk to you and answer your questions. My analyst buddy was very helpful, and I learnt a lot by shadowing and helping him complete different tasks.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects are highly appealing due to the vast geographical and sectoral opportunities within the firm. It appears that they are very willing to help you find a role that suits you. There are lots of opportunities for mobility for those who have become established at the firm and show commitment, which is encouraged.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • As I was the only intern on my team, I didn't get to spend as much time working with my peers as I would have liked, unlike in other teams where there were several interns. There were several scheduled events which were very enjoyable, and allowed you to socialise with your peers outside of the office environment. There were networking opportunities with our colleagues, but these were more formal, and were organised as part of the internship.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Central London is very expensive, especially in terms of rent and travel costs. However, there are lots of options for socialising, as the city is very lively. The transport network is good, which makes it easy to travel across London, meaning that it is possible to live somewhere more affordable and commute to the office.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was not much of a nightlife near to where the office was, however, it is quick and easy to travel across London, as the transport links near the office were good. The office was in quite an expensive area of London, so was not popular with the interns for socialising after work.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were events that were organised as part of the internship which were very enjoyable, as it allowed us to connect with other interns in other lines of business who were located in other offices in London. There were some activities organised during our time on the internship, however, there were no regular events to attend.
