    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship, 10 weeks is a great amount of time to get a clear insight into how the company operates and to take on real responsibility with projects.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In my experience my team had meetings for 15mins each morning to collaborate and discuss the challenges for the day ahead. We would all contribute to the challenges the team face each day. I took on two key projects which involved improving processes, this was highly appreciated by the team as they can then use these tools to be more efficient.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You have to be an independent self starter to strive in my role, this is a very fast paced work environment and you need to be able to stand on your own two feet. Although saying that everyone in the company would spare a few minutes for you to explain a concept or to give you advice.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was project based which is a bit different to a BAU role. You manage your own time to meet deadline driven deliverables, whereas in BAU you will have a large quantity of work to do each day, you are much more likely to be starting early and finishing late in a BAU role.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a stretch project which I developed from scratch, this allowed me to go above and beyond with the project and add a lot of value to the team. I would also meet with clients and because I demonstrated potential from the beginning I was trusted with more work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A summer internship I would argue is the best way to develop your business skills and capabilities. You will become more confident and improve the skills related to your role. In regards to my degree, I will be able to understand wider business needs in my case studies and will be able to add more value to discussions.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The way that the offices are setup make it difficult to collaborate as a team, it is more for individual performance. It is up to your own team to create a social and collaborative environment.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised, constant contact with campus recruitment and managers and global/ regional staff. You are involved in a network of 250,000 people which is incredible. Make sure to remember that on your internship and to make the most out of networking opportunities.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We are invested in heavily as interns, we are called the future leaders and we are given endless amounts of opportunities then it is up to us to make the most of these that are available to us. I would say a lot of the time the internship is what you make of it. However I would say that the training and transparency between the different locations are lacking.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Endless opportunities with this company if you are willing to get stuck in, put yourself out there and make the most out of every opportunity available to you. Also to make opportunities yourself, nothing is going to just be given to you, you must work hard, network and prove yourself.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • For the amount of interns that were at this location, the social scene was lacking due to Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs being very keen to work hard and secure a graduate position. Not many understood the term work hard play hard. However social events were organised and it is up to you to coordinate and participate.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living can be either very high or relatively low depending on how much research you do before moving, the network you have in the area and how expensive your lifestyle is. But on average it is cheap rent in comparison to the rest of the Uk south and to socialise it is your normal day to day prices.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was lively, however due to everyone working hard we did not get many opportunities to go out and have fun. Again, this is down to the group of people you make friends with and your network.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes- lots of opportunities to cycle, run, swim and go to the gym. Not so many opportunities to play football, rugby and other team related sports. I found myself running and playing tennis occasionally. I would have loved to get more involved in water sports, however the weather was awful over the summer and there was not a network at work I could reach out to.
