    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship has been a tremendous experience. It has helped me develop key transferrable skills and nurture technical abilities that I do not use as intensively at university.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • No exaggeration. This place feels like home moments after you walk into the door.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At JP Morgan, they strongly work by the motto of "There is no question that is a stupid question". They push you to your limits and ensure that you receive adequate guidance and support to fulfill your tasks accurately and develop long-lasting technical skill.s

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This question heavily depends on the function in which you work, however in general, work-life balance is highly valued at JP Morgan. This means that, unless unusual issues come up, you have a well packed comfortable day ahead of you every morning you walk into the office.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This is my favourite aspect of the internship. JP Morgan gives you purpose to be in the office. You do not feel like you are an additional bench-player because you are a temporary intern, instead you are given reasonable responsibility to handle tasks and projects that play a key role in your team's daily function, with gradual increase as days pass by. Other companies would not invest as much in you as you will be there for a few months and would therefore deem you as 'not that of a benefit', however in JP Morgan they strongly believe that even if you don't end up coming back to their offices, you can help them be more efficient in their tasks throughout your period in the office which allows them to shift their scare resources to other areas they had second on their to-do list.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am looking forward to going back to university as I now know the ins and outs of the theoretical approaches we take in class. I have a strong feeling that lectures will feel much simpler now following the technical expertise and time management skills that I have developed during my time at JP Morgan.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This was one of the most-surprising aspects of the internship. Before commencing my internship, I did not expect banking office life to be as balanced as it really is. Eventhough there are times when the plate is overflowing with tasks, there is always room for some sports chat, weekend plans, and casual catch-ups to ensure that you always look forward to coming into office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship included social events every now and then, alongside speaker sessions from executives at the bank which provided us with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to ask industry-leaders whatever questions we had. JP Morgan is rich with the variety of Lines of Businesses available and the internship does a great job in giving you an insights into and networking sessions with all the different functions so that you are in a strong position when applying for graduate schemes later on.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • By all means, everything. The firm utilizes all its resources to ensure that you are given all the adequate guidance needed to develop a whole understanding of the industry in general and the bank in specific. The internship even includes an excel training session which takes your game to a whole new level.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship does a great job in showing you how enormous this corporation is. This comes in the benefit that loads of Lines of Business exist in almost every corner of the world. Therefore, no matter what your geographical preference is, or where your passion falls in, you will always find a tailor fit position at JP Morgan Chase.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • The internship holds social events frequently across the internship which ensures that interns do not lose contact and always have time to share experiences to further develop one's understanding of the bank as a whole. You will always run into colleagues lunching together and catching up in our Starbucks which shows that you always have a place in your calendar to have a drink.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is among the most expensive places in Europe, and Canary Wharf does not fall short of that. However, the pricing is normal with respect to the city in general. This means that there are no outrageous prices in Canary Wharf, et incoming foreign Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs might find the whole area a bit pricey.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is no nightlife in Canary Wharf, however London is the city of transportation and therefore the whole city is within minutes reach. You can easily access different scenes of nightlife, from pricey high-end Cirque Le Soir to cheap bar-hopping in Shoreditch, everything is within reach in the City of London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Nothing too exciting. As part of the internship, we have a corporate responsibility day which allows interns to give back to the society. In addition to that, several socials occur every now and then to allow interns to share experiences and network. Apart from the internship schedule, the internship falls in the right time for the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge Run. I advise any incoming interns to sign up as soon as they can to take part of this wonderful experience.
