The Role
Working with J.P Morgan was a very enjoyable experience. During this time I was given a lot of opportunities to learn. The overall experience was very beneficial as I learned a lot about technology but was also given the opportunity to participate in other events too. Best experience I have had so far.
During my time with this company I felt valued by my colleagues. Although I did not have the same kind of experience I was still treated the same as everyone else. Even if I became stuck I did not feel silly asking for help. I felt comfortable in the workplace.
If I had any questions I could always go to my manager for help. I was given clear instructions on what was expected of me during this 10 week internship. I felt if I had any further questions I had plenty people around who could support me during this time.
On a daily basis I felt I had the perfect balance between having enough work to do and not felt too overly busy or bored. I did not feel pressured to get work done and had plenty time to spend time doing learning, and shadowing other colleagues to find out what it is like in other areas of the business.
During my internship, I was the only intern on my team. I was given a side project. I had the responsibility of taking this project on myself and making sure I could deliver it on time. However, I didn’t feel pressured as this project seemed easy to take on by myself.
The internship I was doing was technology based and as I am studying a degree in computer science this was very beneficial. I finally got to apply the skills I had been learning in university into a real life project. I learned about how to put agile methods into practice.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed. The office which I worked in has a dress down policy so you could come to work in casual clothes which made the environment feel comfortable. In the office there were plenty of areas where we could have lunch with friends. I felt very comfortable coming to work everyday.
The overall internship was very well organised. I enjoyed all the events that were hosted within my time here. They organised various events such as hackathons, networking, and social events. All of these ran very smoothly. These events helped me to build my network as I was encouraged to meet new people.
The firm invests a great deal to training. They have various sites which you can access to learn. There is almost certainly a course which you are looking for. They also invest in external sites too which they can use within the firm which are also extremely beneficial. I feel very pleased with the amount of training I was given.
Company Parties/Events
After doing an internship with this company at the end they may offer you a place on the graduate scheme. This is a great opportunity and I would love to get a full time job with them as I have enjoyed my time here so much I do not want to leave!
The Culture
As there were a few interns working within the company there was plenty people to go out with whether this be for food, some walks in the parks, seeing the local nightlife. It was excellent and I made some great friends for life. Plenty opportunity to socialise with other people.
As I worked in a busy city there was a big nightlife. There was plenty bars, events, nightclubs. It was full of life. There was always something to do and always someone wanting to go and experience it. It wasn’t too expensive either. Everything was also pretty central so didn’t have to travel a lot to get from one place to another.
There were plenty opportunities to get involved outside of work. Whether it is an event that was hosted, or something that the interns had decided to do among themselves. It was a very enjoyable experience as I got to meet new people and build my network which will be beneficial for my future career.
