The Role
I really enjoyed this placement. The 10 weeks went very quickly, but I learnt a lot. There were lots of things to get involved with throughout the placement including Techfest, two hackathons and working groups. There were also social events for interns and networking events put on by campus recruitment. Overall there was lots going on throughout the summer and plenty to get involved with.
I was a key member of the team. All of my colleagues were happy to help me and trusted me to complete any tasks they required. They valued me as a key member of the team and were happy to assist me in reaching my full potential. I felt very valued by my colleagues throughout the entire internship.
My manager and supervisors were always happy to help with any questions. If they did not know the answer they would point me to someone who could help. Everyone was more than happy to help throughout the internship. My managers provided me with online training to assist me with coding providing me with the tools needed.
There was always work to do as part of my day job as I was working on a project. However there was also lots to get involved with outside the day job. I took part in two hackathons, techfest, working groups and innovation groups throughout my time here. This has allowed me to find out about life at the company beyond the internship.
Myself and another intern on my team were the driving force of our project, this allowed us to take an active roll in guiding the project. I ensured the project was making progress throughout the internship and found ways around the any problems encountered. This has helped me to gain leadership skills and self motivation throughout.
I have learnt new programming languages through online courses and put them into practice. This has allowed me to expand my programming knowledge greatly which will help with both my degree and future jobs. Additionally I have gained interpersonal skill which will help me in the workplace and learnt about agile and can use this in future.
The Company
Although everyone was very busy, they still enjoyed their jobs. Everyone was enthusiastic and there were lots of events happening during my time there. The high performance workspace resulted in a relaxed collaborative work environment which encourages asking questions and improving skills.
The recruitment team are wonderful and can answer any questions you have about the placement. They send you information in advance to help you get set up as quickly as possible when you get here. The only thing which took a while was getting set up with the development environments to begin coding.
I have had lots of online training to help with my roll, with as online courses in as many things as I can think of available. I gain feedback on all my work and presentations allowing me to improve throughout my time here. My manager has worked with me to help me achieve my personal goals and allowed me the time to do so.

I will be informed at the end of my internship if I have received an offer for the grad scheme. Throughout the internship my manager has helped me to address the areas which are being looked for to give full time offers, and I believe he has helped me achieve my full potential throughout the internship and given me the best chance of a full time offer.
The Culture
There is the chance to socialise with other interns, however I did not live near many of them so did not take part in as many events as there were available. I did however go out for food with some of the interns in my office on multiple occasions and have an end of internship social with my team.
It was fairly similar to university, the typical amount for a sothern town, not really expensive, but not cheap either. The price depends where you go as with any town. There were events run by recruitment which were free with drinks and food provided. Additionally there are events at work with food provided.
I did not go out during my placement, but there are bars and clubs if that's what you enjoy.
There are lots of different events happening both in and outside of work. I took part in a rounders tournament and there were many other events happening. There is lots to do and get involved with so make the most of it!
