The Role
The internship was fairly well organised, for operations it really depending on what team you were placed in and your manager. However, most experiences were very good and the culture and values within the whole bank were really portrayed in their employees. Anytime you would ask for mentoring, shadowing or anything - whatever level the employee were they would accept your meeting.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They would constantly look out for me and help me if I needed it. They also realised my strengths early on and used them within the tasks that were assigned to me.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my team and management, before any task they would show me how to do something and encourage me to discover other areas of the bank. Whenever I asked for help they were willing to show me.
It really depended on the tasks that were given to you, there were some days that were super busy when reaching deadline and other days I saw myself just doing trainings online the whole day. Again, this dependent on the team you were assigned to as some teams kept their interns really busy.
I felt that the tasks were given to me were the ones members of the teams carried forward so I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility.
The skills I developed will assist me - these mainly included coding and excel. Two very good skills to have - especially within a operations role.
The Company
The general atmosphere was good, it really depended on what floor you were on but my floor was quite quiet and relaxed.
I think the internship was alright, I feel some departments was very organised i.e., training week, projects with other interns etc. However, within the operations internship, we weren't assigned a week for training which would have been useful particularly with the systems and excel. I also feel like every team should have thought of projects to assign the interns prior to their arrival so the know what to work on.
The learning during the internship was great - we had access to all of the learning online but no in person teachings.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
A very good chance as long as you prove you can do your work and impress your team.
The Culture
Depended again with your intern batch - most interns would go out a few times a week.
Living in London is always very expensive but the social scene and the things to do are limitless.
London has a lot of variety of things to do, so very good.
