The Role
I enjoyed because the program is very structured and it helps you to understand how the bank works. The internship offers a deep insight to investment banking in London which helps to decide if it is what you are looking for. JP Morgan is the best place to be for starting a career in IB.
The people is the best asset of the bank. They are very open, nice and always helpful to explain any of your doubts. The best part of the internship was the people I shared my day to day work but also my buddy, mentor and other people from the bank.
My line manager was the best! She helped to understand and clearly understand the division but also support me with any doubt. We had a catch up every week but also if I needed something, she was always there to solve a problem or doubt I could have. This was very useful
Depends on the days but some days I was really busy and others I was quite chill. When people were on holidays I had more stuff to do since there was almost no one in the desk and I had to hold the desk. Also, when the summer was ending, we could see how the work was increasing.
Responsability increased with the time and it was definitely good. When some people were on holidays, I was given many responsabilities which were not normal for an intern which definitely helped to have a better experience through all the internship. Responsability was always increasing which represented a good opportunity to learn
It will helpful in terms of soft skills because the presentation skills were demanded all the time but also market awareness. In terms of technical trainings, they were very useful since you need this knowledge to develop your position through the summer but also if you decide to go to any other area of finance
The Company
It was fun to work in the office. Everyone was always open to teach you how to do stuff and always open to have a coffee or just a chat. However, there were not enough networking events and it was a bit difficult to meet people from other teams or departments
The organisation of the internship was amazing! You could know everything that was going to happen from day 1 (including where and when). In addition, you could always ask for any clarification to anyone of the HR team and they will help you. It was also possible to avoid certain activities if needed (work or personal reasons)
The trainings took place from day and continously during all the internship. In particular, the first couple of week were 100% training which was very useful for all the internship. However, there was not tailored fit training for team and it was a bit difficult to apply everything learned during the first 2 weeks
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I got a full time offer to start with them.
The Culture
It was perfect!
You had a good salary but still around canary wharf was a bit expensive to socialise. In addition, you were far from the city centre so there were not many places. You ended always in the same locations but at least meeting other interns from other banks in the same locations
Nightlife was in the city center!
Not too many...
