About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight experience at JP Morgan in Bournemouth. The team provided a very insightful experience of JP Morgan as a company, Bournemouth as a place and Operations as an area. The HR team arranged social events for the Spring Week group and networking events with senior figures in the bank. The Spring Week provided me with a fantastic opportunity to learn about the distinct divisions within Operations and their respective functions. Furthermore, I gained a huge insight into the unique culture within JP Morgan.
Clare, Dolly and Sara, the three main leaders of the Spring Week all provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the Spring Week. I couldn't rate their enthusiasm highly enough. They genuinely provide an excellent opportunity and try to encourage you to propel your career into JP Morgan. The exposure at this event to senior figures within the bank is a superb networking opportunity and the other members of the organisation explicitly state that they attend these events to encourage young people as you never know who the next CEO might be.
There is a wealth of guidance and support provided by the HR team during the Spring Week. Largely, the support and advice is administered through 1-2hr sessions which answers most questions but there is ample time and opportunity to raise further questions if you want to. The Spring Week has placed me in a much greater position to apply for summer opportunities as my knowledge of Operations and is function is far superior now and the culture of JP Morgan is highly appealing.
The skills developed are most pertinent for applying for summer opportunities for JP Morgan and other organisations. CV workshops and mock assessment centres provide a useful chance to develop your networking skills and professional brand.
The Company
The insight week was incredibly well structured from the outset with regular correspondence with the JP Morgan HR team. They provide you with a small handbook with the printed agenda so you are aware of the structure.
The atmosphere is very enthusiastic, be prepared to learn and engage. The group of interns on my Spring Week were all very driven and motivated individuals which helped create an insightful and enjoyable experience.
These events are not cheap to run with the provision of food, accommodation and travel for the applicants. Furthermore, the time taken out of the myriad of guest speakers jobs to present to us will incur a great cost for the business. However, JP Morgan invested both a significant amount of time, money and effort into the Spring Week to ultimately provide a useful and insightful week.
There are many workshops run by the HR team providing an insight into the roles and divisions of Operations but also the local area in Bournemouth. This is important as it provides you with a holistic understanding of JP Morgan as an organisation, the role of Operations and the local area.
The company culture at JP Morgan was fairly apparent to me from my research before starting my internship. However, it is evident that JP Morgan prides itself on their company culture and endorse it through every possible avenue to uphold their good name.
The content of the Spring Week as I've said, is very insightful. However, there was no mention of other areas of the bank which could have proved quite interesting in understanding the whole bank as an organisation. However, in terms of Operations which the Spring Week is dedicated to, the content is very useful.
Everything Else
JP Morgan funded my travel, hotel and most meals.
There are many networking opportunities during the Spring Week but it is very important that you as an individual network yourself.
The networking and social events were very enjoyable and informative. It is really important at these events to go outside of your comfort zone and network with both employees and other interns. It can be an opportunity to obtain individuals contact details for further support and insight in the future.
During the site tour, the guide provided us with lots of information on the extra activities available such as the gym, swimming pool and community activity teams.
This insight is a very useful opportunity and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is considering going into investment banking.
