About You
I found the programme very enjoyable because the recruitment team went above and beyond to ensure we were welcomed and could spend time in the evenings socialising alongside the busy and education days. Every employee I met was smiling and friendly, from industrial placement intern to executive director, which made th experience even more enjoyable.
I was pleasantly surprised at the dedication, involvement and effort made by not only those running the programme but those who came to networking events, delivered presentations, took part in work shadowing... The fact these employees had taken time out of their day to help us made me feel very valued and welcomed.
We took part in various development sessions such as networking, personal branding, CV workshops, all of which provided support for our futures whether inside the company or with another. I felt very supported throughout my experiance, from my application to the day I finish the programme. Any queries before starting could be resolved through email and the team were always offering guidance once I arrived.
I really appreciated the CV workshop as it provided a lot more insight and personal guidance than university run workshops and I will use the expertise gained from this in the future. The biggest skill developed is my networking skills which are slowly growing from more of these events. One event we took part in was a speed networking, where teams could network with senior employees which felt a lot more relaxed due to being able to sit down and speak in teams over some snacks.
The Company
On our first day we received a detailed brochure for the week which included a timetable/ agenda for our time with the company. This meant we knew how to prepare for each day and what to bring with us. The agenda was followed precisely and the team had dedicated time to each activities very effectively. I found the structure was well thought through and each day flowed very well, however the second day featured a lot of presentations which meant there was a lot information to process in the morning; it was all vital, but felt very busy!
I can honestly say I really enjoyed my time at the company and can look back at a very enjoyable, informative and generally fun experiance. The group of around 40 connected really well and the social events meant we could all get to know each other so even in a short space of time it felt like everyone was friends. The recruitment team were so full of energy and motivated that the social atmosphere was mirrored through them. Even when spending time with senior employees, they were extremely smiley and happy to talk to us.
A lot of time was dedicated to the whole group in terms of developing our skills and that was reflected in those in graduate positions and industrial placements as they also had much time to train and prepare for there roles. I was very impressed with how much they wanted to support us all, especially as I didn't have any experience or studies in the area I was interning in.
There were many sessions on what the role intailed, which were throughout without being too confusing. This was very insightful and provided areas to research in our own time because of how complex the role is. I feel I understand the overall role and have an understanding of a few roles within this but others I will research in my own time because of how much there is to know and understand.
I was really impressed with the culture of the company because you could see it passed through the hierarchy from Jamie Dimon to somebody who has worked there for 20 years to a new graduate role. Everybody shared the same values and motivation with complete brand loyalty. It felt like a very rewarding place to work in that hard work is recognised and appreciated. I was surprised at the culture of networking and using mentors from across the company.
It was extremely informative and I am completely in awe of the company and there values but this makes choosing a career path more difficult as it was not my original path. So now I am pleased to have more choices and options but it will make a decision of where to apply to for summer placements and when I graduate a lot more difficult. The recruitment team did a very pursasive job!
Everything Else
Those who lived a certain distance away we put up in a lovely hotel and travel was paid for all. We had breakfast included at the hotel and lunch provided by the company. One dinner for networking was also provided.
There was so much networking with senior employees like executive directors and more informal networking with grads and interns. All was so valuable and useful. It felt very special for these employees with very busy shedules to give up their time to network and teach us about their experiences. Everyone also felt very honest and genuine.
As somebody was gets very anxious about events such as these I felt very supported because of the presentations prior to networking with employees. I also enjoyed how encouraging those we spoke to were as they really wanted everyone to participate so those who are a bit quieter were prompted to speak up rather than trying to dive in when everyone else wanted to ask. This created a very fair and equal environment because everyone got a chance to network.
Yes there are many opportunities for employees to get involved in charity work, business groups for things such as Pride, Women's work... I was surprised at social the workplace was, whilst remaining productive. There are also gym facilities nearbye which I believe are discounted so employees are encouraged to get involved with this and take part in community work.
