About You
The Spring Week was an amazing experience as it gave me an insight into what it's like to work at J.P Morgan. Not only did I learn about the ins and outs of Markets, I gained valuable connections and friends. J.P Morgan employees are also very friendly and took the time to explain and help me understand all the facets of their job.
Everyone at JPM, from HR to MDs, heavily invested their time in making sure that spring interns could make the most of our week at J.P Morgan. We were welcomed by all the employees and any questions about the industry were invited and expertly answered.
HR spent all their time with the spring weekers, helping to facilitate any meetings we wanted to have with employees, or just giving general guidance when needed.
I learnt an immense amount on the spring week that aided me in understanding what area of Markets I was most interested in. This is vital for my future career! The group project helped develop our teamwork and research skills, and since most aren't pursuing financial degrees, the information we received was very helpful in gaining an in depth understanding of working in Markets at J.P Morgan.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured - we were always busy learning about different fields, at networking events, or working on group projects. HR also organised a few socials which were a great way to end the day and to cement friendships.
What I enjoyed about JPM is that there is a horizontal hierarchy at the firm, so it was easy to speak to the most senior employees. Everyone was very welcoming and supportive.
The company heavily invested in the spring week interns, making sure we could learn as much as possible about the bank and the areas of work we are interested in. When work shadowing, employees spent a lot of time explaining and teaching us about their roles, and working on the group project was a brilliant way to develop teamwork and research skills.
The insight helped me understand the many different roles at a sales/trading desk, and how I would start off at the firm. During my work shadowing, I sat on the desks of everyone from analysts to MDs so I learnt about the different jobs that one takes on as they progress.
The insight showed me that the culture at JPM is very integrative and supportive of career development. 'There is no such thing as a stupid question' was reiterated many times, and it was obvious that everyone was heavily invested in their clients and in improving the firm. JPM also has a very open approach to employees - its clear that if you aren't right fit for a particular desk, they will try to find other opportunities for you within the bank.
Everything Else
Yes there were many networking events which were great ways to gain valuable connections in the firm.
The evening socials were organised very well and were a great way to chill out after a long day at the office!
I would 100% recommend this insight to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in banking. It was an eye opening experience and the information you learn about the bank and areas of work really help you identify what you are interested in. The insight also builds your networking, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
