About You
I really enjoyed the whole experience. The opportunity to shadow a female leader and observe the typical every day activities was very interesting. I particularly enjoyed meeting the clients and learning more about how the various organisations were run and how PwC could offer their services to increase their value.
Immediately from the offset I felt welcomed by the staff. I was given an initial induction where I was set up with a laptop to use for the week. The members of recruitment were very friendly and happy to help. Throughout the week I met various different members of staff in different areas of the business. I was impressed by their professionalism and positive attitude to work, and their genuine friendliness towards me.
I felt supported throughout the week and was encouraged to ask questions in order to maximise what I could learn throughout the placement. If I was unsure of where to go or what to do, the partner I was shadowing made sure someone was looking me! Initially it was a bit daunting but I soon learnt that I had nothing to worry about and there was always someone happy to help.
I am currently studying towards a science degree so the actual accounting skills were not too relevant but I could definitely relate to the teamwork and analytical skills needed when working in this organisation. Attention to detail is paramount when working in the lab and so too in PwC when auditing a financial statement!
The Company
The insight was very well run. I was given clear instructions on where to meet each day and if I was unsure I did not feel afraid to ask. The partner I was shadowing wanted me to experience what life was really like working at PwC and so I was fortunate to visit many different clients and shadow real meetings.
I appreciated the work hard culture at PwC and the importance of producing high quality work. The atmosphere was positive and focused, with a sense of camaraderie amongst the staff. I enjoyed shadowing the meetings between PwC staff and observing the different dynamics between the different groups.
The insight was invaluable in terms of gaining an insight into what working life would actually be like as I was able to spend time with staff in different levels in different areas of the business. Shadowing a partner was great as I was able to see the tasks and challenging faced when in a demanding role, however shadowing a recent gradate was also valuable as I could relate more easily to this position.
The insight helped me gain an understanding of the culture; work hard and produce high quality work. I appreciate the professionalism of the staff and the ability to integrate with others and work in teams interdependently to provide a high quality service to clients. There was also an emphasis on building sustainable and strong relationships with clients which was underpinned by acting with integrity at all times.
The content through the whole week was very valuable in confirming my aspirations for working with PwC. I was able to shadow meetings and conference calls and so gain an understanding of what typical daily activities would include. I also liked the people working at PwC and the team based work; working with others appealed to me.
Everything Else
The partner I was shadowing wanted me to gain an overall balanced perspective of what life was like working with PwC, and so I had the opportunity to meet staff working at different levels. I had lunch with a recent graduate and also shadowed another partner within banking and capital markets as the initial partner had flown to Edinburgh to visit a client.I was also able to attend a presentation with lots of different employees.
Yes definitely! Firstly the insight is a great experience in itself, just to shadow a partner and really understand what she enjoyed about her role and the challenges she faces was eye opening. Secondly it gives you an insight into whether working with PwC is for you, actually experiencing the culture and atmosphere for yourself is vital. Meeting the people is also key as you will hopefully be one day working with them!
