The Role
I really enjoyed this internship. Although the first few weeks were quite slow it has enabled me to grow as an individual and taught me a lot about the line of service I entered into. The first few weeks were quite a learning curve, with a limited amount of work I was able to do, but once I was given a suitable task the contribution I was able to make to the team was really exciting.
I felt quite demotivated initially as a lot of the team were on holiday but this quickly passed once the team were back. I was able to make valuable contributions and I received regular feedback explaining how I could improve and what my current strengths were. I was also invited to attend regular meetings and enjoyed meeting some of the senior staff at a project dinner.
Initially the support and guidance was limited, but the work I did in the first few weeks was then assessed and points given to refine and improve what I had already done. I think I probably would have got more out of the internship if I had been on a site with strong guidance from day 1, but the opportunity to make an impression by motivating myself was also a good experience.
Initially I had very little to do on a daily basis, but by the end of the second week I had been given much more structured tasks, and the regular guidance ensured I was on track and heading towards a suitable end goal. The quite period at the beginning is the one part of the internship I regret.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility, from interacting directly with the client through to writing slide decks for partner proposals, the type of work I was given varied greatly. The type of work also made me take ownership as I was keen to deliver accurate and informative insight in a lot of the analysis.
I have learnt a lot during this internship. In particular my social and networking skills have greatly improved. Being on a client site, and having to interact and meet lots of new people on a daily basis was incredibly helfpul. Working on slide decks also taught me a lot about communication, showing how to keep people engaged and communicate a clear message.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very good. The buddy system in place works well, and my buddy made sure I was put in touch with other associates from my office who were also working in the city I was based. I felt included in most of the team events and the intern culture was very strong.
The internship was well organised and the residential at the beginning was a high point for me. Having all the interns in one place helped to ensure a consistent message was given and was a very good way to bring everyone up to a good standard quickly. I do feel that being placed on a project with a lot of people away on holiday, was the one issue I encountered.
Yes, I have picked up a lot of soft skills and been able to work with a variety of people at different levels of seniority. This really made me feel valued as senior managers and partners, right through to associates took the time to engage with me and ensure I was getting the most out of my time here. I was also able to learn a lot about different technologies, so overall feel the personal training and development was very good.

The future employment prospects are good, and while I have enjoyed the line of service, I am not convinced that I would like to work out of the office I was in for my internship. The training and graduate programmes do sound like a good opportunity.
The Culture
Very good social scene. The rest of the interns in my office were great people to work with, and the dragons den project encouraged active participation in group events. The colleagues were also very welcoming, making the time to go for coffee chats. The staff BBQ was enjoyable also.
Very good. Belfast is a cheap city in which to live and socialise. There were lots of opportunities to explore the city and the attractions. I had friends and family visit during my time there as it is a reasonably cheap place to visit and stay.
Unsure. I didn't attend any nights out in the area I worked although I did enjoy lots of nice restaurants and evenings in bars with other colleagues. The drinks I did attend tended not to be in Belfast as I was based at the client site Monday to Thursday.
Lots of opportunities if you are based at the home office. Much more difficult when working remotely at the client site. That being said, I did meet up with a few individuals from one of the social groups in Belfast and they were keen to have me involved when I was around. I also liked the engagement even though we were only in our home office one day a week.
